It’s from ‘Dariya’ from the Baar Baar Dekho (2016) soundtrack :) You can watch it on Youtube. The lyrics have layers of meaning for me.
The first is that I love the idea of a man asking the ocean to stay a little because he doesn’t want to cross to the other side. He tells the ocean “aaya ranjha mera” which basically means “my lover is here”, and I love that – he wants a little more time with his lover before he dies.
The second is because the tale of Heer and Ranjha is one of my favourite tragic love stories. Like all tragic stories it’s all morbid and stuff, but I love it for some reason.
The third is because it ties in with a sequence from my favourite Indian serial, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. The two main characters perform as part of a talent contest as Heer and Ranjha, and I love it because it’s an incredibly powerful moment in their narrative. My avatar is actually the main character from the serial, Khushi, dressed as Heer. I run a fandom blog for this serial at @phati-sari :)
