My full piece for Thailand’s Future, @phichitzine! It was my first zine, and thank you for this wonderful tribute to our best sunshine boy!! <3 It’s been great working with everyone and seeing all the love for Phichit in the zine :”) I had always wanted to draw a Phichit-themed mock-poster illustration and this was the perfect chance for it <3
(I forgot I have this in my drafts I AM SORRYYY ;_;)

Fun fact: Phichit Chulanont is used to heat, humidity, monsoons, and sunshine. Another fun fact: Phichit Chulanont is not used to snow.
A third fun fact: Yuuri probably isn't ready for this.
Winter is not all that it is chalked up to be, and Phichit, for one, has been sorely cheated. It’s grey and dreary and cold and stupid, and no amount of hot tea in the world can make up for it. The biting wind is his personal enemy.
And his mug is empty. Great. No more tea and his hands are gonna be cold again. “Yuuri,” he grumbles, pulling a third blanket around himself, “I hate winter.”
Yuuri, who is only wrapped in one (1) blanket and is therefore some kind of superhuman, looks up from his desk, where he’s eating Doritos out of a jumbo-sized bag with chopsticks and pretending to study but actually just watching dog vine compilations. This probably something Phichit would be shaming him for on Snapchat, if his phone wasn’t made of cold metal. “I thought ice skaters could handle the cold?”
Phichit could throw a stuffed animal at him, but it’d require leaving his blanket mound. “Shut up.”
Shall We Skate? - Phichit + Yuuri Pair Skate version
for @phichitzine
Finally got permission to share my Phichitzine submission so here it is! The piece is my take on Phichit skating to Shall We Skate? as a pair skate, the way the piece was originally performed in the fictional film Phichit absolutely loves, The King and the Skater. He’s cast as the King of the fantasy Thailand-inspired kingdom, and of course his time-traveling magic card game-playing figure skater partner is Yuuri!
The illustration is stuffed with as many references to Kubo’s synopsis of the film as I could fit, and the magic cards are also all Phichit-centric easter eggs! I hope people who got the zine managed to catch some of them, but many cards ended up super tiny and illegible so here’s all the cards along with other notes under the cut!
Thanks so much for letting me be a part of this amazing project, I had a blast drawing my contribution! <3

The King and the Skater - Magic Trading Cards Closeups

Additional notes:
(note: You can read the full English translation of Kubo’s synopsis to The King and the Skater on the YOI wikia, not linked here because Tumblr will hide this post in searches if I do...)
Both of Phichit's programs that we see in the anime are from the soundtrack of the fictional movie The King and the Skater and its sequel, which are Phichit's favorite movies ever. Kubo gives an in depth synopsis of the film, and while there are plenty of elements that are different, the fictional YOI universe movie is clearly heavily inspired by the rl musical the The King and I. While the King and I is a pretty darn controversial film especially in its relationship to Thailand in rl, Kubo's version is meant to be fun and a celebration of Thai culture and skating, and is something that Phichit loves and is inspired by.
The piece Shall We Skate? in particular is explicitly meant to be a two-person piece within the context of the fictional film, as the King (Phichit) extends his hand to his time-traveling magic card game-playing friend who teaches him how to skate. While Phichit skates to it solo in the anime, I thought it'd be fantastic to draw it as a pair skate/ice dance, the way it is in the movie Phichit loves. Phichit's partner is obviously Yuuri, his bff. (who, as his former rink mate and senior at skating probably taught him more than a few things, and who also happens to play "games," possibly card games included! as stated in his official bio ^ ^;)
Just as Phichit's costume is explicitly inspired by the King's costume in The King and I, I felt it appropriate to make Yuuri's costume be inspired by that of the King's partner.
(and yeah, while Kubo’s synopsis can be read as one about friendship, if we parallel The Skater to The King and I in terms of romantic elements too, then that's pretty darn gay bc "Arthur" in The Skater is a genderbend of Anna....and yeah, I personally drew this with PhichiYuu shippy lenses on, to no one's surprise whatsoever AHAHAHHA)
