update + phil's office
Phil returns from Punxsutawney on February 3rd, coming home to his beloved wife who had been expecting him to be home the night of Groundhog Day.. Until he'd called her, bitterly explaining the unexpected vortex-like blizzard that had been reported to hit the Jefferson County area. Unbeknownst to Dennis Connors, her husband comes to their front doorstep the morning after, nearly stumbling inside and begging for her to let him start over. To make everything better.
Over the next few weeks, Phil and Dennis continue their days back at home together like new. An entire shift in their lives. Phil is up early every day, always immediately sitting up in a slight panic. Something like PTSD.
The loop, while being beneficial and good for Phil, was traumatizing. Waking up every day felt like hell. Phil was afraid of being stuck again. Stuck in an eternal February 2nd. Always immediately searching his surroundings. Making sure it was his house. His room. His master bedroom. With Dennis.
Always making sure Dennis was there next to him. Sleeping. Safe. With him.
He'd be sure to kiss her face senseless until she woke up, holding her like she'd disappear. Making sure she felt loved. Making sure she was real. Dennis would always be awake as soon as his petulant screams of distress echoed through their master bedroom, understanding the routine despite not understanding the strange nature of it. The date, his full name and where he was. Never one before the other. Always the date first.
He'd be beaming as soon as he came down from his panic, getting right out of bed and humming some tune to himself as he got dressed for work, rehearsing the forecast for the day to the mirror above their shared dresser as he tied his tie, fixed his hair, checked his perfect, television-ready smile. Dennis would watch from the bed with the same look of swooning affection she had for him when she first laid eyes on him at work.
Breakfast was made by Phil, his newfound love for cooking coming through as he prepared the best omelets he could along with some blueberry pancakes for himself and Dennis. Iced coffee for her, hot for him. He'd never made food for her before, not even anything to the extent of a full damn breakfast for himself. It made her wonder where he had suddenly learned to make such satisfactory and filling meals.
Instead of heading to work separately, Phil would always invite Dennis to ride in his passenger, the same for going home. Phil would hold her hand the entire way to and back from work, striking up conversations about anything that they'd think of.
Work had shifted in tone just as much. Phil had become much more of a kind and talkative person, helping anywhere he could. Making sure everyone was comfortable, working their best and creating a better environment. Kindling genuine interactions and friendships with coworkers he used to sneer at. At first, everyone didn't take him seriously, knowing the egotistical Phil more than this new Phil.
But within time, it caught on. Phil's consistency in change in character really caught on.
