AURORA FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS WITH SNOW re edit
Hi, my name is Kathleen. I was born and raised in Minneapolis. I moved to San Francisco with my husband 33 years ago. We raised two daughters here. We love living in San Francisco but I get homesick for Minneapolis sometimes. My husband is from southern California. I grew up poor on down the street from Stewart Field. So my siblings and I practically lived at the park. I got curious why it was named Stewart Field. I love reading anything about him and seeing pictures. Thank you!
Hi Kathleen, I found this info on the following website...
http://www.midtownphillips.info/brief-history-of-stewart-park/
Location*: 26th Street and 10th Avenue South *Size*: 6.27 acres *Name*: The park was named for Levi Stewart an early Minneapolis pioneer and brother of David D. Stewart of St. Albans, Maine who donated part of the land for the park. Levi Stewart was an early settler in the region and owned considerable land in the vicinity of the park. David Stewart, who inherited the land from his brother, also donated the land for Cedar Avenue Field. Before the park was named for Stewart it was called Seventh Ward Playground.
