If you've never been to a Jersey or Philadelphia area diner you are missing out on so much good stuff (so long as that diner is actually good). New England has this terrible idea that all diners MUST be decorated in 50's decor. What's most important is lots of chrome, a sassy wait staff, a friendly Greek owner, and a GIANT variety of food that is pretty damn good.
