takizawa’s fingers flit upwards to tug half-heartedly at the knot of his tie. he only loosens it a little, but it’s the thought that counts.
ideally, he’d lose the tie altogether — but he’s on the clock, smacking his feet against shallow rain puddles as he traces a path along houses’ walkways. for the record: takizawa is unapologetically proud of his suit. it’s simple & navy, & it makes him look smart. he wears it three days a week & pretends that his closet is more expansive than it is.
proud of his suit, proud of his tie, proud to be making residential calls, & grumpy at summer weather. when it rains, it smells like something cool at the back of the throat. when it rains, it sounds like a concession. when it rains in the summer time, however — it just feels gross. it feels like something sticky.
there had been reports about ghoul activity in the area. by the sound of it, the ghouls were young c-rated creatures. there were rumors of one stronger ghoul in the area too . . . but nothing had been confirmed. takizawa had been sent alone (the higher ups trusted him!) to scout the area & to ask polite questions.
so far, he’s knocked on five doors. three remained unopened. one had been receptive & unhelpful. the third thought he was a missionary.
when he knocks on his sixth door, he’s still startled enough by this assumption that he introduces himself poorly: ‘ i’m not selling religion —- i’m just checking to see if you’ve seen anything unwelcome or threatening? ‘
takizawa interrupts himself & notices moving boxes in near the front door. it occurs to him that he forgot to present id.
hastily, he retrieves his badge & shoves it into view.
