Ryland Grace Ler Headcannons

Just really likes to see you laugh

Gets such a kick out of anticipation. He'll approach really slowly and until you're backed up like a cornered animal. "Just wait! Just wait!" And he just smirks and looks at you over his glasses."I'm waiting... just seems to be making it way worse, is all"

He'll put his hands in his pockets and shrug. "I'm really not doing anything" despite smiling like a criminal

Loves a good chase. Not a long one, but if you run, he'll let you just so he can run up and pick you up by the waist

Loves all kinds of tickles. He loves discipline tickles where he's doing it to get something. Like to make you sleep or relax or pay attention to him.

He loves a good tickle fight. He's ticklish but will often be able to fight back, so you're just both getting each other in a pile of giggles.

Getting the upper hand in this situation is like crack to him

He loves soft tickles where the two of you are just laying down, and he's stroking your back or arms, making you giggle into his chest.

"Whahat? I'm not doing anything"

Speaking of back/arms, he loooves finding uncommon tickle spots and will point it out. "HERE TOO? Is there anywhere you're not ticklish?"

Cannot help but smile when he's tickling you and will deny it if you call him out. "I'm nohot smiling, I'm not"

The beard, the beard, the beard! It's a weapon, and he knows it. He'll hug you from behind and tell you it's time to sleep. "5 more minutes," you say, and he just hums and drops his chin to your shoulder, smiling when you tense up. If you don't scoot your caboot, he'll slowly move it to your neck as his smile gets bigger.

It's not long before he's turned your chair around, has one knee up on your seat as he leans down and buried his face into your neck

On another note, when you're cuddling, he'll lay down into the crook of your neck and fake sore until it tickles. You can try to push him off, but he'll just lay heavier and pin you down as he claims innocence...right into your neck

Big into holding you close while he tickles you. Whether it's a hug or spooning or leaning over you while you're on your back. He just loves to feel you squirm against him.

Will tickle you if you tease him by calling him "Dr Grace," "Dr Captain Grace," "Professor," "yes, teacher," whatever you decide to say to be cheeky

"But yohohou ahahahare a dohoctor!" "Yeah but you don't have to say it like that," he'll argue. If you insist you're "not saying it like anything," he'll just smirk and scoff and go "mmmhm, right" because he might be a little shy, but he's not stupid

Definitely the kind of guy to put your feet over his lap when you're sitting together. He'll rest a hand on your soft socks, but it won't be long before he's messing with you.

Tickles you out of habit sometimes like it's a stim. If you're just relaxing, he'll absent mindedly run his thumb back and forth before dragging his fingers up and down. Whether it's on your side, back, legs, or feet. When you jump, he gets genuinely surprised and apologises (while laughing).

After that, he can't help himself but mostly because he can feel you twitching and tensing with nerves

Ryland Grace Ticklish Headcannons

The most genuine laughter you've ever heard! Will keep his lips firmly shut while his shoulders shake, and he giggles a little high-pitched giggled.

Horribly ticklish ears and neck

Has ticklish palms. When he found out he was so annoyed with himself, he "slammed" his pen down and spun his chair away while he rolled his eyes. Just couldn't believe there was ANOTHER spot he was ticklish.

Despite being pretty strong, this fact leaves his brain the moment he's being tickled

He'd probably be able to fight you off, but he also loses any hand-eye coordination and simply protects himself

To that point, he doesn't flail. You're in no danger of being hit. Instead, he armadillos and pulls his biceps to his sides and tries really really hard to not let you in

"Of course I'm blushing-it's a biological reaction!" He argues if you tease him

Will let you tickle him. If you're having a rough day and you try to tickle him, he'll roll his eyes so hard his head goes with them and stare at the ceiling as he tries not to smile prematurely.

He gets really happy when you get excited and ask "Wait really?". He sighs through his nose and says, "Get it over with," or simply hums. "mmmhm." Make no mistake, he's smiling the whole time.

He'll hold still for only a second before crumbling and curling up

He really likes his hair being played with, but if you touch his hairline (back of the neck/ behind his ears), he'll squeal and bury his face into you, swatting your hands away.

Once you tickle him a few times, he's always waiting for it. If he's reaching up and you walk past him, he'll flinch and pull his arms down.

If you're laying down together and his arm is up resting under his head, he'll slowly bring it down to protect his ribs/armpit.

Rocky will notice and ask "Grace afraid, question?" He'll look at you and say "Very"

Pouts like nobody's business, even if it's fake to make you laugh

Will laugh harder if he can cover his face

Doesn't matter how much you tickle him. If you stop, he will say (with a bright red face) "totally fine, barley felt it"

Total morning person, but will need some convincing to go to bed

Sometimes, you'll tickle him as punishment for arguing with Rocky, who gets very excited by this

Can't handle anticipation. It makes it soooo much worse, and he will melt.

Remember that "Nooooo!" After inhaling the air from Rockys gift? Yeah, he does that if you slide your hands up his shirt so he can't get away

Smiles just thinking about the times you've tickled him. Will fold his arms and cover his mouth to hide it. If you call him out, he's very quick to deny it. "Nope. 'M not thinking about anything. Space. I'm thinking about space."

Tries to go all teacher on you and fails. "No listen- just wait- no? OkAY! Dear God, you're impossible. Hello? Listen? Maybe? We wait-NO! No."

Ler!Ryland Grace being the type to slip the word tickle into casual conversation just to fluster you.

You should've known when he started teaching Rocky English, he would eventually get up to something. And you definitely should have realized that, once the two of them hit it off so well, he'd ABSOLUTELY get up to something.

It's negligible to begin with. One little conversation that you just so happen to overhear. They're working together on something in the lab. You're too busy with Armando's maintenance to be concerned with it, but you can't help but notice Ryland consistently coughing and clearing his throat. When Rocky asks if he's okay and Ryland brushes it off by saying he's just got a tickle in his throat, it definitely gives you pause- as it always does to hear that word, especially out of his mouth. But the two of them keep working, so you do the same. The second time, it's just a few hours later. You had asked Rocky about customs on Erid. Holidays, traditional meals, different dialects. It's when the three of you are discussing music that Ryland explains to Rocky what a piano is and says he "always wanted to learn to tickle the ivories". You furrow your eyebrows, your face slightly flushed as you throw him a quizzical glance, but he doesn't even seem to notice, despite the fact that that sentence could definitely be found somewhere on a list titled "Top Ten Things Dr. Ryland Grace Would Literally Never Say". So, again, you brush it off, chalking it up to his usual awkwardness. The third time, you start to get that gut feeling. Like someone's fucking with you. The three of you are recording. Nothing too interesting, really just a situation report. You let Ryland do most of the talking, which proves almost immediately to be a mistake. He talks about a minor change you had made to Armando's programming, Rocky's weird sleeping habits, and he heavily suggests they equip the next ship with at least ONE shield. He asks if either of you have anything to add, and then he signs off by saying he's going to "keep tickling Rocky's brain" about life on Erid, but this time you swear you catch a little sideways glance and smirk. You huff, glaring at him as soon as he turns the camera off, but he just furrows his eyebrows a bit. "Something wrong?" If looks could kill, Ryland would already be cold Unfortunately, he plays it off just well enough that you just can't let go of that little bit of doubt, the little voice in the back of your head that tells you you're thinking too hard about it and getting worked up over nothing, and oh how very worked up you are. You can't stop thinking about it, and you hadn't realized up to this point that just so much as hearing him say the word could put you in a lee mood, and yet, here you are. You're sure he was doing it on purpose, and your constant mental replay of the three separate instances certainly isn't helping your current predicament. You don't realize that you're too absorbed in your own thoughts to pay attention to whatever Rocky's been rambling about. In fact, you had tuned out of the conversation several minutes ago when the two of them had started going back and forth. It isn't until they both stop talking entirely that you notice you've been staring off into nothing, bouncing your knee and fidgeting mindlessly. They, on the other hand, are staring expectantly right at you.

Suddenly, your face feels much hotter. "Friend okay, question?", Rocky asks with a light chirp, and you nod, but then your gaze tilts to Ryland, and you know exactly why he's got that sly ass smirk on his face.

You don’t know why you’d even doubted it in the first place. Nobody talks like that, he certainly doesn’t, and it’s his fault that you’ve been an absolute flustered wreck for the past hour or so.

You’re definitely the first person to seriously ponder the legal implications of committing murder on a suicide mission, and Rylan would be petrified of the glare on your face if he didn’t already plan to wipe it off.

“You sure? It definitely seems like you’ve got something on your mind.”

You barely let him finish before you snap back at him just to tell him he knows exactly what he did.

He bites his lip and looks down for just a moment, but you don’t miss the barely concealed grin on his face, or the way his shoulders shake just a bit before he looks back up at you.

Rocky lets out an inquisitive trill. “Grace did something, question?”

You take in a quick sharp breath, still glaring daggers at Ryland as you start to tear his head about it, but the words die in your throat almost immediately.

What are you supposed to say? Really? You get flustered just saying the word in any context, there’s no way you can explain out loud that Ryland was saying it just to get you all flustered and needy. And then you certainly can’t admit to the room that it worked.

Ryland eyes you up and down with a cocky, triumphant grin when you fall quiet.

“Yeah, that’s what I thought.”

Project Hail Mary tickle headcanons

I LOVED THIS MOVIE SO SO SO MUCH! AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE!! If I could inject this movie into my veins I WOULD! It was so incredible!! The cinematography, the score, the acting, the effects!!! All of it!! Amaze amaze amaze!!! I'm only just starting the book, so I'm limited on my knowledge there, but it's so fun so far!

Anyways, have some headcanons that I've been. brewing up! It's kinda rambly probably, so apology apology apology!

Look, Grace is absolutely a sopping wet cat of a man. Clumsy, sensitive, prone to lots of eye leaking, and over all a sweet pathetic lil meow meow.

BUT!! Something I think that gets overlooked a bit is how playful Grace is! He makes silly games for his students, upon first contact he dances and makes silly poses, he plays pretend while showing Rocky earth stuff, he makes goofy jokes all the time, science pun shirts!! He's an absolute goofball! And we don't lean into that enough!

He'd love silly tickle games! Maybe goofy rhymes, maybe something like this little piggy, or pretending to be the tickle monster! If he was playing with a baby he'd definitely to the thing where he pretends their foot is a phone. He'd be such a goober wether he's doing the tickling or being tickled.

He hasn't actually been tickled in a very very long time. Not since he was a kid. He just didn't have a family that did that kind of thing, and he didn't have a lot of friends either. He's definitely a bit touch starved even before the events of phm. He probably doesn't even realize he's still ticklish.

Then comes Rocky. It probably happens over a movie, a tickling scene comes on and Rocky is confused by it. Not cause he doesn't know what tickling is (we'll get to that later) but because he's never seen it like this. Of course Grace is all to happy to explain what it is, what causes it, why some people find it fun while others don't. It's really a fascinating thing about the human body!

Then Rocky asks if he's ticklish. Grace isn't initially to flustered or anything, but he does take a second to think about it. He doesn't know really, it's been a long time, and some people kinda grow out of it. He’s says as much and Rocky is very curious, but there’s only so much he can do from his ball. So he makes a choice! He makes the mesh side of his ball a bit bigger so it’s easier to reach through with a bit more dexterity.

Of course it turns out that Grace is very very ticklish. And boy does Rocky take full advantage of this fact. Any time Grace seems to sad or to bored or to upset, he’ll go into tickle mode to cheer up his friend.

Course it was a trial and error thing to tell when Grace was genuinely upset vs not genuinely upset (Rocky attempted to tickle him once during a panic attack and it didn’t go very well). So now he’ll ask “Grace grumpy/upset, question?” And depending on how Grace reacts he’ll go for it. If he gets more flustered or squirmy Rocky knows he’s got him. If he just gets more upset or if he doesn’t respond at all he’ll try and comfort him/calm him down first.

Grace has definitely shown children’s media to Rocky during slower days on the ship. Partly as a comfort for himself, partly to teach Rocky more about earth culture. One show they definitely both like, is Bluey. And if y’all have seen that show, you know where this is going.

Rocky is very fond of the tickle crabs game and loves playing it with Grace. It’s slightly modified since Grace can’t pick Rocky up, but they make it work. Grace doesn’t mind playing “childish” games like this, he’s used to doing dumb silly stuff from his time teaching.

SPEAKING OF THE TEACHING!! The little Eridians he teaches adore him so so much! And I’m 100% sure that if they took a field trip into his bio dome they’d just swarm him, asking for pets and hugs and all those humany things. And since Rocky is definitely there to help keep an eye on the kids I think it would be hilarious and adorable if he taught them about what tickling was. Which cues a big chase through the dome and ends in Grace being absolutely tickled half to death by a bunch of school children. He’d not mad, it was funny, and he’s definitely gonna get Rocky back for that.

As for Rocky? Turns out Eridians can be ticklish! It's just not the same as it is with humans. It's mostly through sound waves, random octaves without rhyme or reason will bounce off and it causes a similar sensation to tickling. But Grace actually finds another way.

It happened during a slower time on the ship, they'd just been messing around, play fighting in their own way. Grace reached through the mesh and hooked his fingers around the 'joint's' of one of Rocky's legs. Both of them were shocked when Rocky shrieked and scurried away.

Grace was super worried that he'd hurt Rocky, but Rocky was quick to explain it didn't hurt, just felt weird. Of course Grace, being the scientist he is, wanted to experiment with this. And this, a new form of tickling for Eridians is born.
