Verizon Wireless plans to expand its 4G Long Term Evolution network in greater Erie on Oct. 20.

Dan Mead, president and chief executive of Verizon Wireless, announced the expansion plans earlier today during a speech at the Sam and Irene Black School of Business at Penn State Behrend.

With the upcoming expansion, residents with 4G devices in communities around Erie - including Fairview, Girard, Harborcreek, Summit and Greene townships - will be able to take advantage of speeds up to 10 times faster than the company’s 3G network.

Verizon Wireless already offers its 4G LTE network in Erie, Presque Isle, Wesleyville Borough, Lawrence Park Township and western Millcreek Township.
