Actualizaciones para tu Windows Phone 8 ha llegado. Microsoft reveló nuevos detalles esta semana sobre qué esperar en su próxima ronda de actualizaciones para Windows Phone 8. Estas actualizaciones menores se esperan para las próximas semanas. Otros rumores dicen que las actualizaciones de “Windows Blue” no llegaran hasta el 2014.
La próxima actualización, que se conoce como General distribución 2 ‘General Release 2‘ (GDR2), vendrá con una variedad de mejoramiento para tu Windows Phone 8 en tan solo ocho meses después de su lanzamiento.
Pero según The Verge, ocuparse de estas correcciones ha retrasado la llegada de las funcionalidades de Windows Phone “Blue”. Microsoft inicialmente planeaba introducir estas actualizaciones más a menudo, pero algunos problemas con los chipsets y un error asociado a la identificación de los dispositivos en una red han causado los retrasos. La actualización “Blue” probablemente vendrá con un centro de notificación, las actualizaciones de la aplicación integrada y las capacidades de multi-tarea. Curioso, pero el primer teléfono con Windows Phone 8 en ser presentado al público, el Samsung ATIV S, será uno de los últimos en salir de esta primera hornada, ya que han retrasado su lanzamiento hasta 2013 para no quitar protagonismo a su buque insignia.
Muchos lo esperaban para esta campaña de navidad, no va a poder ser, ya que el otro niño bonito de Samsung aún necesita un último empujón en las tiendas para que termine de vender todo lo que los coreanos esperan, el Samsung Galaxy S III no perderá ni un ápice de su protagonismo en contra del ATIV S.
Por una parte es una decisión que se puede entender, razonable, e incluso parece de buena estategia por parte de Samsung: priorizar la venta de un teléfono que ya se está vendiendo bien para que continúe en esa racha.
Pero, por otro lado, sólo deja lado para afirmar algo de lo que ya teníamos indicicios: Windows Phone no es nada prioritario para Samsung. No sólo Windows Phone 8, la historia comienza desde el 7, desde el Omnia 7 o Focus no se volvió a saber nada de Samsung en la plataforma de Microsoft. Por eso, de hecho, sorprendió que el primer terminal con Windows Phone 8 fuera de Samsung y no de Nokia, como se esperaba.
La cosa no termina sólo en el no-lanzamiento de terminales, sino en el mismo ATIV S en sí, un terminal donde no se nota un gran esfuerzo por parte de Samsung, no se nota una adaptación real a Windows Phone, sino un desarrollo algo apurado, disruptivo con la línea y estética del hardware de Windows Phone.
Los principales fabricantes han puesto sus productos con Windows Phone 8 sobre la mesa, las apuestas aunque no varían mucho si que muestran alternativas un poco diferentes en lo que a hardware y software se refiere.
Y para comparar hasta ahora los cinco primeros móviles les presentamos una tabla en la que podemos ver en que difieren sus características técnicas. Los elegidos ya los hemos visto a fondo y son: Samsung ATIV S, Nokia Lumia 820, Nokia Lumia 920, HTC 8X y HTC 8S.
Como pueden ver los datos meramente técnicos son bastante parecidos, solo podemos mencionar el tamaño tan elevado del ATIV S o la pantalla de más alta resolución del Lumia 920, pero la diferencia más realista la podremos ver en cuando en veamos los móviles ya en el mercado, así que por ahora de una manera muy apresurada ¿con cuál de ellos se quedan?.
Whoever, checked our tweets before would be aware by now that we like the new Lumia 920. Before we talk about what this can mean for the struggling Finnish company, lets start with the usual stuff.
The Lumia 920 has a 4.5 inch display, a 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4, 1 GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera and NFC. But, dont be fooled by the specs and believe us, the devil is in the details. The Gorilla glass coated display has a 'better than 720p' resolution of 1280 x 768 along with goodies like Nokia's Clear Black and PureMotion HD+ with faster refresh rates. For an extremely light OS like Windows Phone, the 1.5 GHz dual core is more powerful than needed. More importantly, the S4 is not just LTE capable unlike the quad core alternatives, but also extremely efficient and sips 30 percent less battery. The 8.7 megapixel camera comes with Pureview branding, but do not expect the 41 MP sensor that adorned the 808. On a positive side, the camera has Nokia exclusive Carl Zeiss optics and lens shift image stabilization, a feature not found even in most digital cameras. The lens elements are held in position by tiny springs, which compensate for camera shake. The Nokia engineers have also managed to increase the aperture to let more light in. If this was not enough, Nokia used it's Scalado acquisition to bring technology that can erase moving objects out of a scene by merging photographs, all right on the device. If we ignore the 808, this with high probability would be the camera phone to beat. To add, the Lumia 920 (as well as its younger sibling - the 820) will support wireless charging using the Qi wireless charging standard to charge its 2000 mAH battery. Though, this inductive charging mechanism was showcased by the Pre back in 2009, Palm decided to not support third party accessories. This is a welcome addition in the new Lumia's.
Technical explanation aside, the Nokia 920 is an extremely fine device by current day smartphone standards, with icing on the cake being the refreshingly different (and good) Windows Phone 8. Less than two years ago, Nokia was in a state where it's Symbian was rendered obsolete, its back up plan - Meego no where near completion and a market share that was freely falling.
Courtesy of its CEO, Stephen Elop, a Microsoft veteran, the company chose Windows Phone over Android stating reasons of diversification. Back then, the decision was widely criticized for having chosen a platform with no traction over something which was growing insanely well. Windows Phone, which then had 7000 apps, now has over a hundred thousand of them, and is beginning to take users' mind share. Nokia's statement that of the 7 million Lumia's it sold, 4 came in the last quarter is an indicator of this. Microsoft has given Nokia, not just marketing support, but also 'specific help' in these tough times. Nokia's decision makes a lot of sense in hindsight, as it would have been just another hardware company making Android devices and competing with Samsung, the king of the hill.
Less competition in the Windows Phone space is a very positive factor for Nokia, which is trying to re-establish itself in the smartphone segment with Phone 8. Even when Samsung's newly launched ATIV S Windows phone is considered, this will be the best Windows Phone in the market when it launches next month, and its going to be more helpful for Nokia than many think. As an analogy, Samsung's Galaxy S3's sales are better than HTC's One X, more because its 'said' to be the best Android phone and less because its a better device than the One X.
If Nokia can pull through with this momentum for a little more time, it's not just going to come over from its tough times, but it will definitely show why it was the best smartphone maker in the world, a little less than five years ago.
HTC announces event on Sep 19. New Windows phones in tow?
Looks like HTC is not okay with other companies trying to steal the show this month. So, it has added an event to this month's list - on September 19.
Though, it's not clear from the announcement, we guess that the Taiwanese company is planning to unveil its Windows Phone 8 devices. Samsung has already shown its ATIV S phone. Nokia is planning to show a couple of Windows phones tonight. HTC doesn't want to be left out of the party, right?
Definitely, this September is turning out to be much better than what we initially thought.
