Can you recommend some good photography blogs here on tumblr? want to try some outdoor nude shoots with people but I'm looking for similar inspiration
the short answer is “yes. about 80% of the people i reblog.”
so, i tried to narrow it down to “more photography than porn, with emphasis on artistic nudes.” and the top picks i ended up with were @floatycrownythingz, @camdamage and @freshiejuice
i’d also encourage a hashtag search for Helmut Newton, who’s probably my all-time fave nude/fashion photographer.
also, fair warning… well shot outdoor nudes are often easier said than done.
you actually wanna pray for a cloudy day; the clouds soften the light and make this a lot easier.
photos in direct sunlight at noon fucking suck: they will look flat and shitty. don’t waste your time: find a spot in the shade, or try again later.
beware the sun casting shadows under someone’s eyes–that’ll basically ruin your shot every time.
early or late in the day is usually a better bet?
but if it’s too early or late, then the quality of the light gets very “hard” (long shadows, high contrast between light and dark areas). if you can figure out how to work that to your advantage, it can potentially look cool, but it’s also very easy for that to end up looking unnecessarily “overdramatic.”
if managing to hit that sweet spot where the outdoor light isn’t total crap sounds like sort of a pain in the ass, that’s because it is. it’s the reason why I basically never work outdoors.
a much easier option is shooting indoors in a room with a big window (and maybe, translucent curtains). turn the model sideways, and the naturally occurring shadows look so good that it’s almost like cheating.
you can also shoot straight at the window for a cool backlighting effect, or pull down the shades to create nifty shadow patterns.
