Peel School, Lichfield Street, Tamworth Class 1B in 1931 - yesterday's future generation. The Peel School on Lichfield Street was built by Sydney Smirke for Sir Robert Peel (II) in 1850. It replaced the school his father had built in Church Street, which had been outgrown. However this building was similarly quickly outgrown and another school was built opposite. After the 1930's the school was used as the Civic restaurant. Between 1946 and the early 1980's the building became a small factory for Hart and Levy Tailoring. Sir Robert Peel, his father (also called Robert Peel), and his son, all represented Tamworth in Parliament. A statue of Sir Robert remains today outside Tamworth Town Hall.
