I see a lot of things suggesting that people use citrus essential oils or lemon juice on their skin.  (Most) Citrus oil is phototoxic. Meaning that it causes sensitivity to the sun and can cause the skin to be sunburned wayyyy more easily. So if you use any sort of natural citrus on your skin, make sure you’re also using a really high SPF sunblock, or staying indoors for the next 12 hours or so. This is also the action that makes lightening your hair with lemon juice and sitting in the sun, which isn’t super damaging to your hair when compared to using a chemical lifter, but also isn’t great for the hair structure. (I’m all for using chemical lifters properly, so I’m not saying no one should, just that those who tout ‘natural’ lightening as damage-free or in some cases, actually good for the hair, are wrong.)
