Exhibition participation role in group
Among the groups in degree show, my major role was in technical & curating team. Technical & Curating team was the first people who was to contact between hatchlab technicians(Rob,Luke) and the students. I myself have gathered tech request & risk assessments forms from all years and made spread sheet to share with other tech team members(Theo, Isaac). Our team has discussed how to allocate each students to appropriate rooms throughout several meetings and throughout the process, we were all kind of acknowledged about what projects each students are doing and answered the questions from other teams about it. The major discussion was about which room to use and which room to not use as the building was too big to use all the rooms and create a theme for each rooms considering the perspective of audiences while making sure everyone is satisfied with their allocated rooms. We also made stairway plans for the audience and the staffs but could not use as Oxo Tower had their own plan. I believe we shared our thoughts freely and worked well as a team during the exhibition. Other than that, I tried to participate other parts suggesting themes for the show, color pallet with design team, and participated every clean ups and helping the vans.
Using Mac Automator to automatically print from printer-
By setting up a particular finder folder to pass the image file to the printer whenever an image file is added to the folder, openframeworks code automatically saves the image and could set up automatic printing system. One critical issue was by using this system, the printer waiting list window pops over the openframeworks debug window that the openframeworks window has to be clicked again with mouse interaction. This really annoyed me as I wanted to minimize the interaction just to the pendulum movement with the users including the disruption of installation layout with a mouse. I have spent quite a lot of time solving this problem trying openframeworks game mode, openframeworks window systems, mac applications to set certain window always at front. The solution I did was in the automator, create a workflow of running openframeworks debug app after the printing action which is equal to clicking debug window.
Painting-
I used a spray paint to make smooth surface and dotted gradation to reveal the inner side of pipes. I have painted tip of the pipes to give more impression of looking through inside the pipes and seeing the sensors and think of deconstruction. Also highlighting the tips of pipes gave better impression and focused on esthetics as well.
Site visit & layout plan
Picture 1,2 are in same room but different side one with glass wall and one with white wall. Picture 3 is in another room and I liked the rooms with poles in it because the poles gave ancient and architecture mood in the room. Especially liked the picture1 as my esthetic contains deconstruction as well and the broken shapes inside the glass walls support that mood. However, should consider if I can hang TV screens on the glass wall.
I want to use two plaster statue that goes besides my art pieces which I am going to break one of them and one with complete figure. The broken one just at the floor and unbroken one on the plinth to give contrast and to provide concept of twisted and different perspective to the audiences. Initial layout idea is to compress the installments to the wall as I wanted to display the components in a single frame to get impression of combination of ancient and modern technology.
Gathering things together-2
Sensors and poles with acrylic glue, pendulum and pendulum pole with epoxy for more sturdy. I bought a Arduino case to easily glue the device at the bottom of the tray. I added a button for the changed plan of defining movement and activating the visualizing process in the screen. Mini bread board I chose clear color imagining it would smoothly fit into the original esthetic and give strength on deconstruction vibe.
