Why Our Health Conditions Often Cast Us Out?
Humans have advanced through time at an exponential rate. We have gotten rid of some antiquated practices and have adapted to the revolutionary methods that cater to the welfare of people. Despite the growth of understanding toward many things, we have thus far lagged on some. For example, our understanding of some health conditions. People who suffer from health diseases such as Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and other misunderstood conditions become victims of pity or contempt. Due to the ignorance of these diseases, some would reduce the afflicted to their sufferings. Diseases never define the character of a person. That said, the stigma concerning physical and mental health should be stopped. There is a great need to educate those who know nothing about diseases. Ignorance is the major factor that divides our community. Unable to understand fully a disease, they create assumptions of how grave it is and that one must avoid contact with the afflicted. Instead of relying on baseless assumptions, we should consult a professional. With our willingness to learn, our perception broadens. Thusly, the way treat those who are suffering from physical diseases and mental illnesses changes. The contempt against diseases augments the suffering of the afflicted. It is never right to treat them differently because of their conditions. They need our support, not contempt. We must, once and for all, break the stigma of the diseases. To do this, we have to will ourselves to learn rather than live in the shadows of made up assumptions. Out of all the things we have advanced from, we have lagged on breaking the stigma on diseases. However, this generation is making all the best effort to eradicate ignorance that has impeded us from attaining great feats. Humans are many things, but they are never the diseases they suffer.
