Long Overdue

*ﾟ:*:✼ ❀ — The best part about the holiday season was giving gifts. Unfortunately, Laney was out of town for most of it, but it wasn’t to say that she forgot about gifts!

Addressed to Licorice was a note and a bag of baguettes. The note read as follows: 

Dear Licorice, 

You may not remember me, but I remember you fondly as a loyal customer, so have a little treat from me to you. Say hi to the faires for me, okay?

PWRC holiday bonuses

Well, there went Georgia’s holiday bonus.

Begrudgingly, but with certainty in his heart, Vaughn enclosed 5,000G each in four separate envelopes. 

The Pelago Wildlife Rehabilitation Center was in its infancy. It was a repurposed winery, and shaping something like that into what it was now had been a lot of work. But it was up and running, and their little cast of injured animals was slowly growing, all the while being given the utmost in care and compassion. 

He was proud. This was the most important thing he had ever done. 

Without these people, he wouldn’t be doing it. They were something special. They were people he, despite his taciturn demeanor, would call his allies, without a moment’s thought. Maybe someday they’d even be his friends.

With these sentiments, he could bear to give up a bit of money, if it helped them live a little better. He wished he could give more but the man wasn’t made of money. 

Thanks for working with me. We’re doing good things here.

Girl Chat || Georgia & Ellen

[🐎] — Once every week, Georgia would go out for lunch with Ellen, and the two of them would just talk and hang out, updating each other on the developments in their lives. With Laney gone, things were a lot lonelier for Georgia, but she was glad she still had a good friend to confide in.

“Oh yeah,” Georgia starts, stirring sugar into the milk tea she ordered, “I didn’t tell you, did I? I’m, well...” She smiles a bit, blushing. “I’m kinda... seein’ someone now? As one of my best friends, I figure you should know...”

Diary Entry #1

The new horse dad sent my way finally arrived at the ranch today. Apparently the previous owner didn’t know what to do with him, since she wasn’t able to break him. 

It’s been so long since I last had to break a horse, but I think it sounds like a fun challenge! Even better, since dad obviously trusts in my abilities enough to recommend me. 

I... Wonder what he’ll say once he catches wind of the fact I put my name down for the silent date auction. I somehow have a feeling he is going to be less than thrilled. Aha.... 

But now that he’s gone, I can finally spread my wings and start doing things I want to do. Including adventuring. And this is a charity event in support of finding lost and wounded adventurers. It only seems right to volunteer myself for something like this.

I mean, I have never been on a date before, so I have no idea what to expect, but... At the very least, I hope I can leave with a new friend? 

I should really find out if Gigi and Laney are going to be attending. Maybe we can get ready together before hand or something. At the very least, I think I will be less nervous that way.

I should also go to bed. Hopefully my first day with the new horse will be a fun one! (Speaking of, his name is Pepsi! Pics later!)

After their initial meeting at the auction, Ellen had decided she had to go all out for her date with Danny;  Not because she liked him, but because of his reaction to seeing her. 

It was painfully obvious by his lack of enthusiasm that he thought she was “average” and boring, and no matter how much she wanted to let that go, it still bothered her. She had never been first choice before, and she was fine with that, but for someone to seem so disinterested.... Well, it wounded her pride a little bit. 

Had she known it was because Danny already liked someone else, she might not have felt so bad, but Ellen had no idea that was the case. 

Once she was satisfied that she was looking cute as hell, a determined grin crossed her face as she looked into the mirror. She wanted to make him feel bad for thinking she was plain looking. If a guy (or girl) couldn’t like her when she was dressed normally, they didn’t deserve to be with her when she was dolled up.

Not that she was going to be a jerk by any means, she still hoped they could be friends, but at least now she felt a little less bad about her appearance. Baby steps.

Sweet Perks | Ellen and Laney

*ﾟ:*:✼ ❀ — It was right before opening time and Laney needed to start thinking about the winter menu as the season was quickly approaching. Obviously cozy, comfort food and drinks like warm cookies and hot cocoa were always a big hit when the time hit. It was a classic after all. 

However, there was nothing wrong with a little experimentation. She had been looking up some recipes and since there was still some time before the doors officially opened, she could experiment a little, especially if things were a little on the slower side. 

Laney had been mixing some batter and wasn’t sure if it was quite ready yet. Of course, when she tasted her own food, she found it was delicious. It still felt like it was missing something. Something to really make people think of the winter season and most importantly made them happy. 

Sighing she placed the bowl down and wiped her hands on her apron. Perhaps she was losing her touch. Maybe she should figure it out another time. While that sounded easy, she was having trouble coming to terms with it. She wasn’t satisfied with it and couldn’t think straight until that issue with the batter was solved. 

Laney rested her hands on her hips and sighed, puffing one side of her face as her eyes scanned the room before landing on her employee, Ellen. Ah, maybe she just needed a second opinion. 

“Hey, Ellen,” the blonde called out and picked up the wooden spoon with a little bit of the creamy batter on it, holding it up so the woman could come to the counter. “How does this taste?”

Get Rekt | Ellen and Neil

♬ — ♬ — When it came to most things, Neil wasn’t the most patient or kind. However, when it came to animals and monsters, it was like he was a whole different person. He didn’t particularly like for this much more gentle side of him to come out in front of others because it ruined the tough exterior he normally kept up, but sometimes it was inevitable. Even from a young age, he was able to get along with animals and monsters much more so than people.

But combine people and his passion for animals? Well, that wasn’t likely, but when it did happen, he had...mixed feelings to say the least. 

So, when that blonde girl... Laney, texted him of all people, not to mention out of the blue, and told him that she had already set some sort of training session up between him and this other girl he hadn’t even met, well, he wasn’t very pleased. He wished that she would have talked with him about all this and didn’t even know that he apparently was just some free tutor now. 

Neil wasn’t even sure of his own teaching skills. He didn’t talk to people on his own, so he was sure that explaining something that he held at a high value would be that much more difficult. Oh, and did he mention his patience? Or lack thereof.

After a long rant over text to this girl, he didn’t decline the offer. It would be good for his business and he could at least tolerate someone who had an interest in monsters and taming them. It was like that saying goes, you could give a man a fish and he’ll eat for a day, but if you teach him to fish, he’ll eat for a lifetime. And maybe a part of him was actually flattered that she recommended him be the teacher to this girl. 

So, partially reluctant, he stood at the entrance of the forest with the materials he needed to tame monsters while waiting on her to show up. Neil had contacted Laney to tell this girl his whereabouts so in case she was a complete dunce, she could at least figure that out.
