Getting accustomed to his new living space was easily the first thing on Hide’s to-do list in this strange place he found himself in. He normally would’ve been impressed by the view through gorgeous windows taking up a full wall, but as one of the native people of the city - Septans, he learned they were called - explained when he arrived how there had been a small incident that accidentally raised the dead. At least it wasn’t the norm for this place. And he got a safe view of the shambling corpses from inside the building.
‘Guess that rules out the possibility of this being the afterlife, if these dead guys are walking around,’ he reasoned. The ‘zombies’ themselves didn’t look too intimidating, compared to his past experience with man-eating creatures, but his senses of curiosity and self-preservation were in a constant balancing act.
Luckily for him, logic weighed a bit heavier, and Hide decided to continue his exploration indoors. He checked the front doors, which appeared to be enchanted to let residents enter automatically, but remained firmly locked to the reanimated. He nodded, satisfied with the safety, and continued wandering around the ground floor. Tall statues and fancy paintings decorated the lobby, and although he’d never been the best with art, Hide did his best to try and appreciate the odd splashes of color on canvas.
“Are these magic too?” he wondered aloud, reaching out to touch the canvas. He was so focused on trying to see if any reaction came from the painting, he didn’t even notice the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs.
