1972 GMC 1500 Super Custom

As the final and most refined chapter of GM’s celebrated “Action Line” era, the 1972 GMC 1500 Super Custom represented honest American utility at its absolute peak. While sister division Chevrolet ran single headlamps, GMC proudly doubled down on its commanding quad-beam front end, framing four headlights within a massive split-bar chrome grille stamped with bold block lettering.

Opting for the top-tier Super Custom trim paired vivid two-tone paint with thick side moldings, while the cab offered embossed vinyl seating and woodgrain dash accents. Underneath the clean sheet metal sat serious hardware: factory front disc brakes, a bulletproof transfer case, and torque rich V8 power ranging from the reliable 350 small block up to the 402 “Invader” big block.

Long before plastic cladding and touchscreen electronics overtook modern pickups, this rugged four-wheel-drive hauler conquered job sites and backroads with heavy-gauge steel, manual locking hubs, and pure, unpretentious grit.
