So to celebrate the release of the 20 year anniversary edition of Hybrid Theory, Linkin Park has also released a whole bunch of their previously unreleased demos from back when they were a garage band known as Xero. In addition to being a cool look back at their early, unpolished days, I just about lost my mind when I saw that one of them was called Pictureboard.

Now, you have to to understand, there are a lot of cut songs, demos, and B-sides from this era, a bunch of unreleased material that collectors just love obsessing over. Everyone into that sort of thing knows about songs like Dedicated, the cut High Voltage remix, Reading My Eyes, etc. But the holy grail of rare Linkin Park songs has always been Pictureboard, as the only sign that it even existed at all was that Mike mentioned that it was one of the few early Xero songs that they redid with Chester and played at a show once right after they changed their name to Linkin Park. It shows up on no other setlists, no known recording of it exists, it was just mentioned one and then never again.

Naturally, people were very curious about this song, but it has never resurfaced. Mike did later say that the band felt that it wasn’t good enough to release, so they never did, which was all sorts of frustrating. Like, we know that it’s a demo and probably isn’t as good as their later stuff, but we were still curious.

But then, after years of speculation, LP just went ahead and...casually dropped it into Youtube, along with a ton of other material from that era that we had never heard of.

This is surreal.
