This cheery Dino is Gertie. She was created by Winsor McCay for a short film released in 1914, called Gertie the Dinosaur. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although Gertie is not the first animated character, she is the first dinosaur to be featured in any film, and the first character to have a distinct personality. The film is also the earliest to use different animation techniques, like keyframes, tracing paper, and animation loops, for example. And in 1991, her film was preserved in the U.S. Library of Congress' National Film Registry.
