An Iowa human trafficking victim who stabbed her accused rapist to death and was ordered by a judge to pay $150,000 to the man’s family is receiving support from thousands of GoFundMe donors. A fundraising appeal for Pieper Lewis, the 17-year-old girl who faces five years of closely supervised probation for the killing, had raised over $332,000 from about 8,700 donations as of Thursday morning — more than double the original GoFundMe goal. Leland Schipper, Lewis’ math teacher at Des Moines Lincoln High School, organized the GoFundMe to help with the restitution payment. Iowa law requires those convicted of a felony causing the death of another person to pay $150,000. “A child who was raped, under no circumstances, should owe the rapist’s family money,” Schipper wrote in the GoFundMe appeal. As donations surpassed the amount of the restitution, Schipper added: “I am overjoyed with the prospect of removing this burden from Pieper.” #PieperLewis https://www.instagram.com/p/CikM-FDuZRe/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

After a tumultuous upbringing and constant abuse by adults Pieper Lewis faced a 150,000 fine to pay towards the family of her abuser But a former teacher along with others saw the injustice of the ruling of Iowa state Pieper Lewis had been trafficked by Zachary Brooks after he preyed on her vulnerability as he found her at 15 years old after running away from home Throughout her life Lewis had been explicitly attacked by grown men under the will of Zachary Brooks who also abused her until the day she had enough and ended it all Prosecutors attempted to argue that at the time Lewis sought ending the abuse by force, that Brooks had been asleep and was of no danger to her at the moment, however knowing that he had repeated offense with her every time he woke up prior to The Iowa judge sought fair to not charge Lewis with murder because she was an abused child defending herself from another attack However she was left with a 150,000 fine to pay towards Brooks family On July 14th Pieper graduated from High School and her former teacher witnessed the battle she had gone through and decided to jump in and start a GoFundMe to help raise money for Pieper to afford thr fine as well as live her life The goal was set to 200k but has now reached over 400k Lewis's story is much like Cyntoia Brown and Chrystul Kizer whose case was recently overturned from first degree murder to defense as well Follow For more trending updates #pieperlewis #cyntoiabrown #chrystulkizer #breakingnews🚨 #news #popculture #newspage #facts #fact #entertainment #entertainmentnews #blackculturenews #womennews #recentnews #topnews https://www.instagram.com/p/CijAUSfuwNM/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
