Unbelievably, it’s been TEN WHOLE YEARS since Welsh director and action choreographer Gareth Evans completely changed the game in the action cinema genre with a genuine stone-cold MASTERPIECE set in Indonesia, with an Indonesian cast, showcasing the phenomenal “new” martial art of silat (I know, sounds strange, Welsh director, Indonesian film, and yet).  The end result was the first of TWO movies (also counting its sequel, which is EVEN BETTER) which TOGETHER make for one of the greatest action cinema properties EVER CREATED.  It also introduced the world to a true martial arts superstar in the form of Iko Uwais.  Here’s to a whole decade of this pure shot of adrenaline ...

I missed out watching this movie a long time ago for a good reason – it’s a foreign language film and I had no idea about the actors, until recently. Iko went big internationally with Mile 22and I recently watched Gareth’s Apostle. I’ll be soon watching the second installment. To be honest, I’m watching the movie…
