The American Yorkshire is an American breed of large domestic pig. They are the most numerous pig breed in the United States. They derive from pigs of the British Large White or Yorkshire breed imported from the United Kingdom or from Canada at various times from about 1830 to the mid-twentieth century. Although they are primarily white, their skin can sometimes show small freckles or dark spots. Yorkshire pigs are known for their friendly and sociable temperament. They are generally calm and easy to handle, making them a popular choice for both commercial farmers and hobbyists.
