hello!! I just want to say thank you to everyone in the filipinx community! Although I’m only half filipina my mother, who immigrated to America at a young age of 20, has shown me a lot about my culture. I’ve endured a lot of comments from others telling me I’m not Filipino enough and I’ve finally learned to ignore those who know nothing about me. Dati malungkot ako kasi hindi ko kilala madaming pinoys dito pero dahil sa tumblr ang saya na ako. maraming salamat sa inyong lahat. maligayang PFAD!

Lol @ sad attempt at taking selfies. My name is Mikayla, I am 16 years old, I'm 7/8 Filipino and 1/8 Chinese. I may have been born in Texas and grown up in Maryland, but my heart belongs to the Philippines, and I'm hella proud of my culture. I was made fun of a lot when I was in elementary school because I was Asian, asking if I ate dogs and frogs, but even so, I loved being Asian and being who and what I am. My biggest pet peeves are when people think that the Philippines isn't in Asia (it's in Southeast Asia) or that Filipinos/Filipinas/Filipinx are "the black people of the Asians", or the worst one, when we are fetishized for white peoples pleasure. I never knew much of the Philippines culture cause I was never really taught it in school (despite being in AP World History). All I know is that the Philippines were considered the U.S.' "property" and that we were invaded by the Spanish. That's it. I think what's why I'm so happy and excited that we have an Pilipinx Face Appreciation Day because we were never really represented. I can't speak Tagalog (but I try to anyways), but I can understand it almost perfectly. My favorite Filipino foods are kare-kare, picadillo, sopas, vegetable lumpia, and halo-halo. I love to sing even though I'm super shy of singing, I always get a bit of a culture shock when my friends just call their older siblings by their name, and I love going to the Philippines. I am proud to be Filipina and my pride is something that no one can ever take from me. Mabuhay ng Pilipinas! 🇵🇭
