I work in a record store so I'm going to start documenting all the arcade albums I come across. First up: Pacman Fever. In our break room, we even have a poster showing how to do the Pacman Fever dance!

Yesterday, I made up for lost time when I drove around to 5 of our locations to pull and count coins. It feels really great to check in on the different spots and see how well the machines are doing. By the end of the day, my fingers were grey with the grime of quarters and bills; my arms feel pumped from lifting and carrying heavy bags of quarters for the first time in weeks; my thighs can feel all the times I’ve squatted down to open coin doors; and I’ve smiled and talked to tons of folks all over town. It’s such a sense of satisfaction and pride when I see how much the machines have earned because it helps me envision all the various people who’ve enjoyed these particular games and I know that I’ve played a small part in their fun. It’s not like I’m helping to solve the world’s problems but I do think that we all need to take time out of our crazy lives to play and enjoy ourselves. I’m so happy to support these spaces and the people who frequent them. For those of you who spend any of your time playing machines on location: thank you! You’re helping keep the arcade culture alive! If you don’t venture out to play, I encourage you to explore. You may play a game you’ve never seen before, get to play a different version of an old favorite, or even meet some new friends. To find the games nearest you, check out these helpful resources.

I’m home from a long vacation where I didn’t play pinball once! And I’ve missed 4 league meetings (2 from each league)! I’m excited/nervous to play again. Hopefully I’ll have time tomorrow to visit a location or two to pull coin and clean/work on some machines in addition to warming up on some favorite games. In the meantime, I don’t even know how to feel. I miss my pin friends and community. I’ve come to realize just how important they are to me. At the same time, I was happy to take a break from the scene. I got to focus intently on family and old friends and didn’t even have my normal “must answer all pinball questions at great length” tendency that I usually employ in such situations. Instead, I was happy to be contributing to the decorative success of a cousin’s wedding, watching my son collecting shells on the beach where I grew up, reuniting with dear family, laughing with friends from high school, getting covered in lovable pets’ fur. In other words, I was living life outside an arcade and it felt really good. Of course once the jet lag wears off and my home is in order, I will be donning my overalls and sprinting to FreeGoldWatch to hug my pin friends, roll some steel, and happily come home.
Today, I cleaned T2, NBA, Whodunnit, DemoMan, baywatch, startrek, bride, and Popeye. I am so grimey my hands are grey. The games all play super fast now. And I smiled while I worked. Enjoy, SanFrancisco! 🌉❤️🔮💥👽

In the last column I talked about the possibility of Stern's next pinball having a Playboy theme. At that time I hoped it wouldn't be the case as the license could detract from the game's good points and damage sales.
As you've probably seen, Playboy is here. It's real and it's been reviewed first by Pinball News.
Do those reservations stand? Well, yes I think they do. Probably more than they did when this was just a rumour. If you'll pardon the pun, when you strip away the nudity (or semi-nudity) we are left with a fun game with good rules and an interesting layout. It's not earthshatteringly original but then pinballs are a certain shape for a reason - it works!
So once you've played the game, have a think about the theme. Do you have a problem with it, and do you think it will harm sales? In the end you'll find that out for yourself when you try to find one to play.
Personally speaking, I don't find it especially offensive. I do think, though, that it's anachronistic. There's a reason why nobody made a successful Playboy pinball for 25 years. Playboy used to be aspirational. Men were envious of Heff. Women yearned to be Bunny Girls.
But we've all moved on since then. Grown up, perhaps. Women don't yearn to wear rabbit ears and the Playboy ethos is, quite frankly, a bit embarrassing.
I can see that those thoughts are not shared by everyone and in some parts of this wonderfully diverse world, Playboy is viewed very differently indeed.
So in the end, what do I know? Tell me I'm wrong.”
