Thanks to @pruneunfair, I have the following idea for my rewrite.
The great Edith Empire decides to sign a peace treaty with its former enemy, the Trokan Kingdom. The enmity between the two nations arose from their opposing views on magic. In the Edith Empire, magic is seen as a gift from the goddess, and mages enjoy great prestige. In the Trokan Kingdom, on the other hand, magic is considered an offering to God, and mages are seen as disciples of the devil, which led to persecution and mass genocide not only of magic users but of anyone even remotely suspected of being a sorcerer.Obviously, the Trokan Kingdom started multiple wars against the Edith Kingdom, considering its very existence blasphemous, but Edith, with magic and priests possessing divine powers among its troops, won every battle, conquering numerous territories that belonged to its adversary, which allowed it to become a powerful empire.Currently, the Seedling crisis forces the Edith Empire to seek stability by any means necessary. The anti-magic policies of the Trokan Kingdom have led to a stalemate. Both countries suffer sporadic demon attacks. Mutual need motivates the two nations to sign a pact that will end their enmity and initiate a profitable trade relationship. The Edith Empire holds a monopoly on the manufacture of magical items, thanks to the marriage of the crown prince to the princess of the distant Surya Kingdom, and has access to spices, cotton, and tea. Trokan possesses a strategic location and a strong diplomatic relationship with Demeon, a peninsular nation composed of islands, rich in natural resources. If the agreement is reached, it could initiate a new trade route between the four nations, but centuries of enmity and prejudice against magic jeopardize it.Aware of the magnitude of this task, the Emperor of Edith sends his capable son and heir, Prince Wolfram, to finalize the agreement at the Trokan royal palace. The latter is accompanied by his wife, Princess Amata, and their eldest son, Prince Aarav. They are also joined by Lady Catherine Ernest, heir to the Grand Duchy of Ernest and the only ether mage in the world. This addition to the royal entourage was a strategic decision by the emperor, as the god worshipped in Trokan does not grant holy powers to its priests; therefore, Trokan lacks the ability to create its own anti-demon walls. If the agreement is favorable, Edith will lend them Lady Catherine's power to solve this problem.Catherine is going through an identity crisis, living in seclusion from society following the revelations of her disastrous debut, and trying to raise her full-blooded younger brother. Her boyfriend, Rav, encourages her to travel with him to Trokan, as illegitimate children are more readily accepted there, and few will know her full story. They are received in Trokan.Rumors of more people with memories of the first timeline, where she died riddled with arrows on her own father's orders, reach Iselle Pereshte's ears, encouraging her to travel outside her homeland in search of others like her.Rav's impetuousness leads Catherine to meet with Pisco in search of Kanna, who mistakes Catherine for the latter. An encounter at a masked ball with Lady Lynette, who also utters the name "Kanna" upon seeing her, puts Catherine on alert. Who is Kanna, and what is her connection to the Hilt family?Curiosity guides the cat toward a series of revelations that will ultimately reunite these two very similar young women. Can they be the sister the other desperately needs?
