I had the same problem when designing tattoos for a character. I gave him a rune tattoo for protection and later found out it was commonly used by White Supremacists. It's tough, but i think the general public still associate most runes with paganism over Nazis

 Yeah I think that’s true. They’re in a lot of video games and other pop culture referring to old religions rather than supremacists, so, I hope that holds true.

I just finished the series a few days ago too! My only problem with the series was I didn't know who to root for half the time. X'D

 Same, but I’m taking it as a good thing. Basically any time someone does something awesome I root for them. Guy becomes cool ass vampire? GO TEAM VLAD. Priest chucking holy swords at said vampire? GO PRIEST. It’s delightful.
