There is something so profound about how necro cav relationships are meant to make the necromancer stronger and lead to the cavalier's inevitable demise upon reaching lyctorhood, but every lyctor we ever meet regards the loss of their cavaliers with maddened despair and it inevitably leads to every betrayal against god. The thorn in the side of John's empire is that he can't take loved away and all of his creatures will turn on him for making them try.
Ianthe is the only exception but only because she never truly had a cavalier. She has a sister and she will rather starve herself into an undying death until the sun burn out than eat her sister. The greatest necromancer from the house of gold and greed refuses to do that.
I am not even going to try unravelling the Sixth, that's THE can of worms to ever worm of cans. They saw the stages of grief and said "no, we're going heresy any lysis instead".

Love character arcs where two people start in the same shitty place but one of them starts toward redemption and the other spirals further and further downward. Like yessssss the hardship of choosing to become a better person in spite of who you were before and the people who want you to stay like that. yessssssss suffer and spiral and become worse in spite of the better choice you refuse to accept. yesssssssss the inherent tragedy of losing someone you once loved to the person they are now.

(also, the sexual meaning of the word "fetish" came after the original meaning [x], which has a very anti-indigenous slant to it but that's for another post. either way, baroque-hashem's usage of the term was correct)

i made the original post while searching for good jewish films to watch that weren't about the holocaust and just treated the jews as normal people. every list of iconic jewish films i encountered had holocaust films on it, every streaming service i searched "jewish" or "judaism" on gave me almost exclusively holocaust films. it's impossible to try to find jewish stories about jews being jews without being inundated by a mountain of media about one example of jewish suffering. (which is another thing—we have a LOT of examples of jewish suffering that aren't the holocaust, why is it that the holocaust is the only event goyim care about, and why is it that holocaust narratives are the only stories about jewish pain that sell?) does it have to be so hard to just find some jewish stories??? it doesn't even have to be about jewish joy—i think i ended up watching the 2009 movie "a serious man"—i just want to watch something that isn't about the fucking holocaust for once! and why are so many movies about the holocaust made by fucking goyim!!! IMO not really✌️ I never wrote a LS love interest with the assumption that they had any interest in video games. Usually someone in their periphery (like Zoe, or Stella) would have their finger on the pulse of modern nerd/terminally online stuff while Vivienne (likes old films) and Rory (likes vintage Star Trek) are like “…..what?”
This is also true for characters in non-modern settings like Lyris. I like games a lot and didn’t want to project too much of my likes/dislikes onto love interests.
This is also why Vivienne likes white chocolate btw. I’m neutral on it but I know other people have strong opinions about it so I decided she would be one of those people. I thought it would be cute if she had a really strong sweet tooth, because it’s a trait associated with childishness, and it makes her a little more human and less of an enigma. We know she’s intimidating and capable and strong— what are some things about her that she finds a little embarrassing? That’s where the human element lives.

So every year, my aquarium does a captive lobster hatchery project (hence all the loblings). The reason we’re doing it is because in the wild, loblings only have a 1 in 25,000 chance of surviving their larval phase. They’re plankton as babies and everything eats them. Additionally, as the Gulf of Maine warms, they are having even lower survival rates because the blooms of copepods they feed on as babies are happening earlier in the year, and they’re missing it.
Obviously, the goal of this experiment is to grow the lobsters until they’re big enough to settle to the seabed and then release them, because they have a much higher likelihood of surviving to adulthood when they’re able to hide. Ideally, captive lobster hatcheries can boost the wild population and keep things stable, so we don’t have a major crash in a decade or two.
The first year we tried this was pretty bad. We had a lot of eggs, but very few babies. It turned out that the CO2 levels in the building spiked as more guests visited throughout the summer, and that settled into the water and threw off the pH and caused a chemical reaction that prevented a lot of the eggs from hatching. I think we ended up releasing three baby lobsters (which is still better than their wild survival rate but not great).
The second year was a little better. We added a de-gasser to the aquarium and got a ton of larval lobsters, but right as they were settling to the bottom we had a disease outbreak that killed most of them. We ended up releasing four babies at the end of the season.
But this year? Oh boy. We have so many lobsters that we had to release the first round early (usually we wait till September or October so guests can see them). We just released a total of FIVE HUNDRED AND TWENTY FIVE baby lobsters, and we still have over a hundred who haven’t settled to the bottom yet. I genuinely don’t even have words to explain how cool this is. OVER FIVE HUNDRED. We just added hundreds of lobsters to the wild population that wouldn’t have been there otherwise.

I think about The Man of the Hole so often. 27 years alone. 27 years with no one to speak to but strangers to wave to. Survived a genocide, a massacre that killed everyone he had ever known and later, an assassination attempt. He still tried to warn researches about the traps he built. He was only about 60 when he died in 2022. The people who tormented him in life later desecrated his grave.
I do think it is important to share the stories of the Lone Woman of San Nicolas Island and Ishi and the countless other indigenous people who experienced the profound trauma of being the last survivor but it is important to remember that the last Aboriginal families in Australia to be contacted by Europeans were resettled in the 1980s and the Indian government has proposed a plan that will mean total genocide for the Shompen people. The total eradication of indigenous peoples, their cultures, their languages, their ways of life, is not something which occurred in a distant ugly past but an ongoing process.
