This lesbian power couple is instrumental in overturning Indian’s 377 on September 6, 2018, after a five-judge panel of the Supreme Court struck down the colonial era-sodomy laws encapsulated in the IPC that made consensual same sex activities illegal. The Supreme Court advocates Menaka Guruswamy and Arundhati Katju, are Harvard Law School and Columbia Law School graduates respectively. This is an example of how colonisation didn’t make life easier for the natives. Something we often have to inform white people who inflate the value of their contributions, not recognising how local rights are won by feminists in our own country. We appreciate all they have done, we genuinely don’t think it’s as far reaching as they often think. Singapore’s LGBT+ advocates are also challenging our own version of 377, a leftover law from the colonial era by #repeal377a and #pinkdot2020. This is a reminder that female contributions are always overshadowed by males in every movement including #iamnotavirus or #blacklivesmatter✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿. Your support must also be politicised, women centered and female first, to balance up the social power dynamics. If you didn’t know about them or who filmed George Floyd’s murder, then you understand how women can start movements, even make great life changing wins and be quickly sidelined due to sexism, racism, lesphobia, etc. We’re always under duress and always fighting not to be buried. Feminism is intentional, organised and purpose driven. For that, you have to politicise everything. See by the lens of sex (female male), race (what colour), etc. There’s no point mindlessly spooling men are bad news when often the news isn’t politicised enough, if at all. Your support must also be intentional, organised and purposeful. Source @blackilocks https://www.instagram.com/p/CBvidbdBObk/?igshid=1gxezd1q7xft9
