jungkook wakes up with a start, breath heavy and hair matted across his forehead with sweat. 

there’s a sleepy mumble from beside him and then jimin’s up too. “hey jungkookie, nightmare again?” 

jungkook gulps and nods, not trusting himself to speak without a trembling voice and half-asleep, jimin wraps his arms around him, snuggling his head into jungkook’s neck.

“shhh, big baby jungkook go to sleep,” jimin murmurs. “your two years older than you jiminnie-hyung will fight all the big bad monsters under the bed for you. even if you’re a big giant baby that could fight them all on your own.”

“th-thanks, hyung.”

and in the morning, jimin will tease him about it because jungkook’s too old to be sleeping in jimin’s bed every night because of nightmares even if he’d never kick jungkook out anyways. jungkook will pout and mumble something about it’s not monsters i’m scared of and jimin might ask him what his nightmares are about then and jungkook will deflect the question as best he can, talking loudly about food or dance practice or some new anime. 

because the truth is, jungkook’s nightmares are about losing jimin.
