Something I wish I knew before I got into the craft was that meditating and energy work is the best way to start your craft. Protection first, obviously, but you can’t just jump into spells and wonder why they aren’t working. You have to know how to control your energy first if you want it to do anything other than look pretty.
So, my advice as an experienced witch of 4 years to a new broom, work on meditating and how to control your energy. Manifestation and energy work are going to be your best tools. Once you know how to control your energy, and how to manipulate other forms of energy, your power and what you can do will be limitless.
Another thing, don’t get a fancy grimoire until you know what you actually want to put in there. Get a few spiral notebooks to start with. Write down your basic information and reference guides in those, write down your experimental spells and use the scientific method to document if they work or not. If they do? Check it off as a working spell. Once you’ve been practicing for a bit, you can start your grimoire. Plan out how you want it to look and have what you want to write in there, already written down so you have the wording correct. Make sure to protect your grimoire with sigils/runes. Make your own sigils to protect it.

I am really enamored with the idea of combining "grimoires" with other genres. As an existent example I love the initiatory narrative that is weaved into Lux Haeresis, I think it does an excellent job of introducing the experiential element that is vital to the Sabbatic work.
I think we can go so much further.
I want grimoires hidden in theatrical scripts, character, practioner, and spirit all blending into a Dionysian madness.
I want cook books that integrates recipe and formula so that to each dish, if properly prepared, will summon its patron to the table.
I want a mystery novel where the only way to solve the mystery is to follow the clues into ritual and find the answers yourself!
We do not need another list of spells, we need innovation! Seize the quill, take up the tools, write a grimoire in a way that no one else could!
