theo liked his job. sure, he had to clean litter boxes and pick up dog shit, but he also got to spend time in the cat room giving each one a little bit of love after they closed up and take dogs for walks. he was also starting a tiktok account to try and get some of their longer-tenured residents adopted out. they were a kill shelter, which sucked, so he was trying to get the word out however he could. a local photographer had partnered with the shelter and was just on their way out when the bell atop the door rang, signaling someone new was entering.

"just gimme a sec," theo called as he poked his head back through the doorway. he was dealing with a particularly rambunctious tortie who liked perching on his shoulder and really needed her claws trimmed. 'ow! come on, dixie. that hurts, you know?" with a little bit of coaxing a few extra treats, he was able to secure her in her cage and returned to the front lobby looking only slightly worse for wear, hair messy and t-shirt a bit rumpled. he plopped down into the wheeled chair behind the desk and exhaled a breath, looking up at whoever had entered. "how can i help you? dog adoptions are fifty dollars, cats are twenty-five, and we have a couple of rabbits in the back if you're interested.'

When Nadine got her invitation to the mixer, she had no idea what to expect out of the night. She’d spotted a few familiar faces nearly as soon as she’d entered, but Nadine was more drawn towards the unfamiliar. Almost everyone was a face she knew, but only in passing or in rumors. It’d only make sense to get know them all more; after all, they’ll all be part of Lethe House together. She makes her way to the food even though she’s already eaten dinner. She picks up a flute of champagne and looks to the person next to her. “Seems they’ve got quite a spread, huh?” She smiles brightly. “I’m Nadine.”

A newcomer has arrived.

Sylvanas stands outside what the stranger referred to as her “accommodations.” House 124, Fibonacci. She stares bullets into the domicile as if she were at war with the thing, as if it’ll burn to the ground if only she doesn’t look away.

The architecture is entirely unfamiliar. This world... it’s unlike any she’s ever laid eyes on, and yet the structure before her is mundane. Almost laughably so. Hardly fit for a queen.

She has not moved in some time. It’s been what feels like eternity since the human drove away, leaving her stranded in an infinite abyss shaped like a nuclear suburb, with no possessions to her name save for an infuriatingly cheerful leaflet, a measly longbow and what appears to be some infernal goblin contraption.

She takes a moment to study the mysterious rectangle of polished obsidian in one hand. Well, surely the lack of any big red button rules out the possibility of goblin origin. She has half a mind to destroy the thing, but when she squeezes, the device does not give. How much did they take from her...?

Finally, she pockets the machine; a secret to be unraveled soon enough. Digging one final sneer into House 124, she begins her approach, longbow at the ready.

Her steps are careful, as if approaching some great, slumbering beast she intends to slay. The banshee places a hand gingerly upon the knob and swings the entrance open. She steps inside, and the door clicks behind her.

With the swiftness of a soldier, she nocks an arrow and pulls back the string, ready to fire. Yet nothing leaps for her throat, no pressure plate sinks beneath her feet, there is no smug adversary narrating her demise. She doesn’t know what she's expecting to find, but as she gazes upon her surroundings, the reality of her situation sinks in: the one reality she was not ready to face.

It’s a normal house.

She returns the arrow to its quiver and slings the bow across her torso. Then, inhaling through her nose, she releases an ear-piercing shriek. The wail of a banshee is notoriously loud, and the walls vibrate with the Dark Lady’s frustration.

Someone... probably heard that.

He finally got some clothes, other then his get-up he wore out in public. His hero costume was MIA, and so was 90% of his quirk. Least he still had his physical training and a bit of his quirk. Better than most of these other B-list idiots. Speaking of which, one of them was staring at him right now as he returned the look.

Bad Landing - Tic and Piper

Tic had found himself bored out of his skull with very few people looking to give him the attention he was hoping for. He quickly saw the tree towards some of the small buildings, running up towards it to be able to scale it up to one of the higher branches. As he perched himself on it, he saw a few people looking up to see what was making the tree shake and move, which, of course, made him want to draw on more of that attention. He climbed up on the limb, balancing himself on it as he inched towards the edge, feeling it start to bow under his feet. “Look out below!” he called out with a hearty chuckle. He bounced on the limb, listening to ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ from the crowd below.

It wasn’t too long until his shift at the Houseboat was set to begin, and so Mike was headed down toward the dock where the bar was parked. He wasn’t running late, so when he caught sight of a familiar redhead nearby, he figured there was plenty of time to stop and chat. "Hey, Pipes!” Mike greeted, cheerful as ever. “How’s it hangin’?”

“Special delivery!” Ellie let herself into Piper’s office and set an absolutely stunning, overly large bouquet on her desk. She beamed at the woman.

“Happy Valentine’s Day, from a very special someone,” she said with a wink. She gestured to the card attached to the floral array for Piper to read. 

Edmund himself was honestly hopeless at romance. While he could write a thousand words under five minutes that would make anyone swoon - the skills didn’t quite translate to real life. So while Edmund had been quietly panicking about what to get Piper for Valentine’s Day - if anything - Ellie had decided to take things into her own hands.

The card read “Will you be my Valentine’s, Gorgeous? - Edmund” Ellie had written it in the closest approximation to Edmund’s writing as she could. She hoped it was convincing. 

“So...” She took a seat across from Piper as she tried to gauge her reaction, “Do you love them, or do you love them?”
