An Unlikely Pair
Emma had forgotten her key. Again. She'd told herself a million times that she needed to put the key Mary Margaret gave her on her keyring, but she always just threw it into her pocket instead…which led to her forgetting it in discarded jeans the night before so that when she left in the morning for work, she did not have her key to the loft with her. It didn't help that Mary Margaret was working late either -- some fundraiser at the school, maybe a food drive? Emma couldn't remember, but she had no choice but to go down there now.
"Oh, Emma, you decided to come after all!" was the greeting she was met with by her roommate when she spotted her in the crowd of people carrying boxes of cans around to their proper tables. "Well, actually, I just locked myself out again," she replied a bit sheepishly, knowing this was the second time she'd had to come find her to use her key, but this time, she just decided to hang around. "I can help out, though…if you need it." Since Mary Margaret had asked her if she wanted to volunteer a week ago.
She wasn't given much instruction, so she wandered around, occasionally pointing people who were bringing food in the right directions, but otherwise, Emma was pretty bored.
