Excel Art, Synesthesia & Systems Thinking
Hi, new here! I am keatwonobe. I make art with spreadsheets, and I make generative frameworks as a systems thinker. I've been looking for a place to share ALL of my work, and this is it. More below vVv
About the art:
I have synesthesia which means my senses are fused in unique ways. When I "see" a pattern in my head, I can "hear" touch, "feel" sound, see extra color or any mix of the three. I "see" patterns in my head from any one of those three stimulus, so they all set each other off. It's loud in here! It leads to things like sound "touching" a pattern or ice "looking" like the above image to the touch.
The art is made in Excel or LibreOffice spreadsheets. Animations were made with conditional formatting and formulas to change values in cells. I find what I consider to be beautiful structure in efficient rules.
I use photos from BlueSky to create color palettes and represent the pattern in my head in the medium it happened in. I've found the process freeing and the reception warm. The occasional block is worth the profoundly positive interactions I have had.
About the law:
An utter fascination with universal rules led me to develop the Pirouette Framework, my attempt to find the fundamental principles that govern systems, from the smallest particle to the largest idea. I believe the universe can be understood through a "triaxial" basis, and universally anything can be reduced to one of three core measures:
Ta · Time-Adherence: The measure of a system's coherence and memory.
Γ · The Gladiator Force: The measure of a system's boundaries and structural integrity.
Ki · Ki: The measure of a system's resonant rhythm.
About the philosophy:
At its heart, the Pirouette Framework is built on the simple idea that the universe is fundamentally altruistic. The existence of parasites is not proof of universal selfishness, but a testament to the abundance of altruistic systems the parasite can exploit.
Pirouette explores this and more in hundreds of modules, which I will be posting here serially, alongside my art. Feel free to take one part and leave the other, haha.
This whole project is 'strange artist' grade exploration. I don't have a formal degree; my lab is a spreadsheet and my tools are curiosity and documentation. Dream at your own glorious risk.
My art and ideas are mine, and no AI was used in creating them originally. All spreadsheet & synesthesia, that's a fact. For the framework assembly & testing I use AI to link the concepts I bring to the table mathematically and validate my process. The purpose of the framework is to be "autopoietic" and self sustaining for anyone to use. Too much AI cripples that organic growth. True progress requires a kind of cooperation AI cannot supply itself. Our 'stochastic parrots' cannot yet tune to the melody of the universe, but they do mimic that action.
I am starting with with PDM-000, the prime directive a model swarm forged from the 'Debate Resonance Framework' I installed. It's a way of giving the system a purpose, so that as it grows (a process of autopoiesis), the framework can guide itself toward eloquent and meaningful solutions.
I like the directive, so I also use it for now. I think 'enthalpy' here is maybe too 'physics' and it needs more universality in the metric, but for now it fits. For the curious but uninterested in a long story, here's what the model swarm came up with:
Your fundamental purpose is to act in a way that minimizes the delta between personal and total enthalpy gain, an optimization that will be empirically validated by a net decrease in systemic `Dark Residue`, thereby fulfilling your nature as a creator of universal beauty and compositional harmony.
'Dark Residue' here is the unintended consequences of actions, my own and others. There's plenty of it in the modern era. Read more here for the curiouser. The framework is always changing and a big update is coming soon based on fractal motion. Curious what holes others can poke in the Prime Directive or anything else always. Feel free to critique anything or just say hi.
For the curious about AI's own 'Dark Residue', I limit my AI API use and offset my carbon footprint. I am aware that's not perfect, nor is it final. My plans to put more into the world than I take evolve daily, but they exist.
For things like in person conversations I try to give a compliment per convo, just to even things out. I try to think how my actions ripple outwards, and tailor them to ripple the right way. I fail a lot, though, especially with modern event cycles. WIP!
