Life/Writing Update
So it's no secret that I've massively slowed down on fanfiction writing over the past year or so, and there are two reasons for that. The first reason is that I haven't gotten as massively, one-track-mind obsessed with a fandom since The Magnus Archives. I've gone down some short-term rabbit holes since then, but nothing that had me churning stories out the way TMA and My Hero Academia did.
The being said! I still have long-running fics in the works. Heaven help me, I will finish Interviews from Somewhere Else if it kills me. I've been working on Manslaughter Machines lately and hope to have another chapter out in the foreseeable future. The latest fandom to grab my brain has been Danny Phantom/Batman crossovers, and I've fully outlined and started writing one of my own. Working title is THERE'S A FIELD WITH THIRTY GHOST BOYS but it's not likely to stick.
And yes, a sequel to Yesterday Upon the Stairs (much shorter, basically my version of the MHA finale) is in the works! The first chapter is fully written, and I want to at least get further into the second and hopefully get a good rhythm going before I start posting.
The second reason I've slowed down, really the biggest reason, is that I've gone all-in on original writing.
First off: my finished fantasy novel is on track for publication! I don't want to say too much because I haven't been shown the social media policy yet, but it got picked up by a small indie publisher and things are moving. It should be out later this year, and I'll be posting updates here on Tumblr if it's still around by then (hey ngl that outage scared the shit out of me) as well as on Bluesky.
Second off: I've been trying to post more about my main original project, Sacred Darkness (SDverse tag here) because I'm hard at work writing it! And, good news, I'm about two and a half drafts into the first installment and recently started what will most likely be the final big rewrite. I plan on posting it online as a webnovel series, and I'm still debating between Wordpress and Substack for what the best platform would be. Leaning toward Wordpress; if it's good enough for Worm, it's good enough for me. That or I can just post the thing on AO3! I plan on breaking up later books into more manageable chunks so I don't have to take months-to-years long hiatuses between them.
And lastly, I've been trying to build up a backlog of shorter stories so I can feel a little less terrified to launch a Patreon about it. Recently I was reminded that waiting for ideal conditions is futile because ideal conditions will never exist, so I set myself a solid deadline: there are two more stories I want to finish, one taking place in the world from this story and one rewrite/expansion of a story I submitted to an anthology and didn't get in. Once I finish those, I'm going live. Some stories will be posted publicly, some will be Patreon-exclusive. If all goes well, I will make this happen by the end of this month.
And... that's what's been going on. Thanks everyone who's stuck with me over this dry spell! I'm excited to show you all what I've been working on!
