I’m proud to identify as a weirdosexual. I’m attracted to weirdos, freaks and aliens exclusively. Just real fucking bizarre people with chaotic energy who may or may not be human. One good, cracked out nonsequiter and I nut immediately
I don’t trust anyone who refers to any piece of fiction as “dangerous.”
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions on movies and that’s fine, I’m not looking for a fight, I just want it on public record that I don’t think the mcu is fast food or whatever. It might not be fine art but it has substance, it has heart. It resonates with me. That’s all.
dumbasses out there like “yeah but this isn’t JUST about taylor, it happens to other smaller artists all the time and they don’t even have the resources she does so why should we care about her” like yeah it does happen to smaller artists all the time!! if only someone would speak up about it, say, someone with a large platform and a career that can survive the backlash, someone with personal experience with this systemic issue, someone to come say “this happened to me and i am telling you so you can protect yourself,” someone to say something to newer artists like “you deserve to own the art you make” or something to that effect. if only someone like that would make a social media post about this issue!!
long hair bucky stans....stand down. you had your time. short hair bucky had one movie, every appearance since catfa has had him with long hair. the vast majority of his screentime features long hair. now finally short hair bucky is getting some acknowledgment. you can be disappointed but you don’t have to rain on our parade. it’s short hair bucky’s time to shine, finally. let us have this.
super controversial opinion and i know i’ve said it before: I actually didn’t think “still think you’re the only monster on the team?” was sexist, I thought it was a realistic portrayal of trauma. I don’t think we’re meant to take Natasha at face value, I think we’re supposed to see her as a deeply traumatized woman whose trauma related to reproductive violence is intimately tied up with her trauma related to being raised as a human weapon, for completely understandable reasons.
I’m sorry but trauma can make you feel like a monster even if you didn’t do anything wrong and it’s completely normal (tragic, but normal) for natasha to feel monstrous because of what was done to her and not just because of what she has done. i personally dealt with feelings like that for years and still do (where do you think my adoration of villains comes from?)
I guess you can argue that “the narrative should’ve made it clear that she is unreliable and we’re not meant to agree with her” but tbh i don’t think the movie should have to hold your hand and explain to you that sometimes trauma makes you think poorly of yourself even if it’s undeserved. the only real way to call it out explicitly would’ve been for bruce to correct her, and he had basically two options there, neither of which were good:
1. say “you’re not a monster” which he knows goddamn well, from experience, is not going to help. she just revealed something incredibly vulnerable to him and giving her back something he’s come to see as a false platitude would have been nearsighted to the point of apathetic.
2. say “you’re not a monster for that reason. other reasons yes but not that one” which is fucking rude and again, not how to respond to someone who just told you something deeply personal and painful for them.
tbh, i don’t think bruce knew quite how to respond to what natasha told him and i think that’s pretty normal too. as someone who’s been in both situations (having someone tell me about their traumatic pasts and not quite knowing how to respond, and being the person who reveals something traumatic and the other person clearly being empathetic but not knowing what to say--like. it’s normal. it happens.)
so i think that plot point played out in a really raw, heartbreaking and realistic way and frankly i was genuinely surprised when i came home from the theater and saw people losing their minds and labeling it evil when it spoke to me so hard.
anyways. i’m not trying to police other people’s reactions to the scene or say that it’s Definitively Not Sexist and You’re Wrong If You Think So, i think there’s room for nuance and varying opinions on it. it just bugs me when people act like it’s Definitively Yes Sexist and You’re Wrong If You Don’t Think So because it’s genuinely one of the most relatable (to me) representations of trauma i’ve ever seen. and i think there should room for that nuance and those opinions too.
[i’m open to discussion on this but if you’re about to reblog this post saying I’m Definitively Wrong and Sexist For Being So please i’m begging you as a trauma survivor to hit that new post button and vague about me instead.]
And, as an aside, it’s....pretty rich seeing people who’s main fandom is Star Wars criticizing the MCU for being too corporate. Especially given the specific “theme park” criticisms like...who’s gonna tell them....???
(Plus DCEU stans....I love the DCEU but in terms of commerciality literally the only difference between the franchises is that the MCU is more successful at their shared goal of making tons of money. I promise you the DCEU is not looking to make arthouse festival films.)
