My Birthday!!!!
Yeah, woooooo! I love birthdays. I marvel at how I'm more interested in seeing people I love than receiving gifts and receiving the phonecalls from people just because they were thinking of me and want to wish me happy birthday. It makes me feel so loved and important. Even the Facebook posts from people I don't usually talk to are nice to see. There's so much value in telling people in varying capacities that they matter. No doubt this behaviour from others towards me has helped build up my self esteem from a young age and continues to positively impact my life. I'm the kind of person that enjoys sending a message to someone just because something made me think of them.
I started a movement with a few friends surrounding the isolation of technology. I made post outlining my thoughts about instant messaging and the lack of messages we actually send to one another. I posed the question, why do we not send people more messages when we are thinking of one another? No reply is needed, it's only necessary to send more messages to our loved ones. In an age with instant messaging and the constant distractions/barrage of the online world, it is more important now than ever before that we don't lose that personal touch. I don't feel that relying on technology is the answer to better communication, that's still very much in our court. It is still us who must reach out to one another, tell someone today that you love them or that you're thinking about them, reach out to a creator and tell them you like their stuff without expecting anything. Put the humanity and caring back into communication. Let's not waste an opportunity to build connection with our loved ones.
