I'm so sorry that you have to have a body, oh yeah
I'm very sorry that you have to have a body
One that will hurt you and be the subject of so much of your fear
Clarisse wasn't hurt, she had no injuries, she was just sore. That's what Will said anyway and she wasn't about to argue about medical things with the one medic son of Apollo they had left. But gods, she hurt.
She felt sore and her bones felt heavy and she felt too tense and too loose and she felt exhausted.
“Clarisse?” Chris, her boyfriend whom she loved dearly, called her name and like the good and loving girlfriend she was she flipped him off without even turning to look at him.
It will betray you
Be used against you
Then it will fail on you, my dear

“Clarisse?” Chris, her boyfriend whom she loved dearly, called her name and like the good and loving girlfriend she was she flipped him off without even turning to look at him.
“So mature,” he teased, coming over to sit next to her on her bed, where she lay face down and under her blankets. She just whined.
“Want me to get Will?” He rubbed her back soothingly, making her melt into the bed.
“‘M not hurt, ‘m just being a little bitch,” she explained and Chris tsked, he hated when she would say things like that, hated when she would insult herself because she was injured or in pain.
“Is one of the injuries acting up again?”
“if you start on that ‘sports injuries can cause chronic pain and technically capture the flag is a sport’ nonsense I will punt you out of this cabin injuries- hypothetical injuries be damned.”
“Fine, fine.” he rolled his eyes and paused for a moment “if one of your injuries- ow!” he whined when she smacked his arm. “Sorry, if one of your hypothetical injuries was acting up, what would you want me to do to help?”
“Ambrosia?” she glanced at him, trying to give puppy eyes.
“Does Ambrosia actually help when you hurt like this?”
She looked away burying her face back in her pillows and mumbled “… no.”
“I bet we could get Silena to convince Beckendorf to let all of us watch something in his room and just hang out, if you want," he suggested while running one of his hands through her hair, which was incredibly unfair to her because how the hell was she meant to think enough to answer when he was doing that?
“Just me, you, Silena, an’ Beckendorf?” she asked, leaning into his touch.
“yeah, just us,” he promised.
Clarisse just whined “everything hurts, I have no clue why.. wait.” She paused for a moment and lifted her head to look at the calendar and then immediately shoved her head back in her pillows and groaned. “Nevermind I know why.”
“Why?”
“I'm bleeding out.”
“You're bleeding ou- oh, your period” he sighed, trying to will his heart rate to return to normal. “You know you could phrase that in a way where it doesn't make it sound like you're dying.”
“Tell that to my uterus ‘cause it seems to think I’m fucking dying by the way it's makin’ me feel,” she grumbled.

One would assume joining with the god of death to stop a centuries Old family bloodline curse that caused constant excruciating pain would mean no more constant excruciating pain and yet Walt Stone was learning the hard way that although he could exert himself more when it came to magic now that he was Anubis' host the consequences would still suck.

Which got him here; curled up in bed, with all the lights off, in pain, hugging the stupid stuffed animal Sadie had gotten him at a carnival they went to, she had absolutely used magic to cheat the game but he didn't really mind that much, it was soft and when he was in pain it gave him something to squeeze.
He wanted to get up and be helpful, there were classes he was supposed to be attending but luckily the older kids were in significantly less strict and structured classes by the instructors from the first Nome (especially the well-behaving older kids) so he could get away with it. Though he was pretty sure Jaz had also told the teachers about his condition.
She was the only person who hadn't assumed it magically went away when he joined with Anubis. But then again she had been the only person who had seen how bad it was most of the time, she was the main healer at Brooklyn House and the only person he talked to about it before Sadie and Carter found out, of course she would know that it wouldn’t magically disappear, she put her whole life into studying curses and magical medicine.
Anubis was attempting to comfort him, offering soft apologies and promises to not let Walt push himself so far in the future whispered in his mind but they all felt a bit meaningless, the god was supposed to fix the problem and he did for the most part, just not completely and that ‘not completely’ felt very apparent at the moment.
There was a knock at his door, he hoped it was Sadie, he knew it probably wouldn't be, or if it was she was either skipping class or there was a problem but still he hoped it was Sadie. “Come in,” He mumbled, lifting his head just a bit to look at the girl in the door.

Nico had insisted to Will about fifty times over that he was fine, that he could play Capture the Flag, that his legs weren't going to give out on him like they had been doing earlier in the week because he was fine.
I bet you can guess what happened to him.
But luckily Lou Ellen finds him and helps him to the Infirmary and he finally learns why his legs get out the way they do.

Nico had made a mistake, a very big, mildly dangerous, mistake. He had insisted to Will about fifty times over that he was fine, that he could play Capture the Flag, that his legs weren't going to give out on him like they had been doing earlier in the week because he was fine.
I bet you can guess what happened to him. So now here is he is; sat propped up against the tree hidden in the forest hoping no one would come and try and capture him because he didn't think he could stand. He had promised to Will his knees weren't that bad, they had been they were they'd only gotten worse turns out running when you have fucked up knees doesn't help them being fucked up.
“Hey Nico, why are you on the floor? Wait, shit! You're not on my team” Lou Ellen Glanced around checking no one saw her making friends with the ‘Enemy’ team “eh.. fuck it no one's over here why are you on the floor?” she asked tilting her head at him.
“If I tell you you can't tell Will,” Nico said trying to sit up straighter and be somewhat convincing. She simply raised an eyebrow at him and gave a look that screamed ‘I'm absolutely telling Will now, specifically because you just told me not to’.
“Your knees gave out even though you promised him like five times over they wouldn't?”
“Please don't tell him,” he begged.
“I kind of have to, he is the main medical professional at camp Nico.”
“Gods dammit, that gets more and more inconvenient every day,” Nico grumbled though he didn't actually mean it; he loved Will, he loved that Will cared about him so much but it did get inconvenient when he wanted to do things and his over-concerned boyfriend to panicked at the thought of him potentially accidentally hurting himself.
“I don't think it would be anywhere near as inconvenient if you actually just listened to him when he told you ‘hey don't do this thing I'm a doctor’.” Lou Ellen argued sitting next to him her attempts to ‘not fraternize with the enemy team’, or whatever this would be considered, completely going out the window in favor of annoying her friend.
“But then he gets all protective and it's annoying,” he whined dramatically.
“Nico your knees gave out in the middle of Capture the Flag, the game where the Only Rule is ‘no maiming’ and people half the time don't even listen to that rule, I feel like maybe he has a reason for being protective.” Lou Ellen nudged her shoulder against his.
“Yeah yeah I know I know” he sighed, nudging her back. “Can you help me back to the infirmary? I don't think I can walk on my own and I do not want to be out here by myself, I mean I doubt anyone would find me but..” he trailed off.
“But the Ares cabin is insane?” Lou Ellen filled in the rest of the sentence; most of the cabins were incredibly competitive about capture the flag, that was part of the whole point of the game, but the cabin five kids and the cabin seventeen kids were a particular breed of insane and competitive about capture the flag. Of course it made sense given their parents were the God of War and the goddess of Victory respectively but it still made it a bit intense, especially if they were on the same team, which they weren't this game, thank the gods.

Sadie messed up her ankle somehow, she wasn't sure exactly how but she had, and now she had to wait for Walt so they could hang but because her ankle was messed up waiting meant sitting still in the living room which was driving her insane, but luckily for her all the younger initiates of Brooklyn House viewed her as an older sister so she had a whole gaggle of honorary younger siblings to keep her distracted while she waited for Walt to be done studying with Carter and Jaz.

Sadie didn't know how she messed up her ankle, there were lots of instances where the injury could have come from but she wasn't sure what exactly. Maybe she stepped weird going down the stairs, maybe she moved wrong during training. She wasn't sure all she knew was that walking hurt like hell because her ankle felt like it was breaking every time she stepped on it.
Jaz said she had something called hypermobility; her joints were extra bendy but that also meant they could bend out of place. She knew she was bendy she had taken gymnastics for a few years as a kid but had gotten injured by too much, her bones always seem to twist out of place, so her grandparents took her out turns out she wasn't just a clumsy and silly kid, there was an actual medical term for it, take that Gran.
But now, as she sat on her chair in the living room, waiting for Walt to be done doing a little study session with Jaz and Carter so they could hang out, she felt like she was going insane, she couldn't move, well she could but walking hurt too much but Gods, if she had to sit still for one more minute she was going to implode.
She stood up wincing a little from the pain but it wasn't that bad, that was a lie it hurt like hell but she could deal with it, she'd saved the world, she could handle it.
“You're not supposed to be standing up.” She turned to Felix, the blonde boy was wearing a penguin jumper of all things, because of course he was. He was staring at her, she hadn't even noticed him sneak up on her, how long had he been sitting and drawing at the table behind her?
“I feel fine,” She assured him, Felix was a sweet kid but she did not want him telling Carter she was using her messed up ankle because she was pretty Carter told all the other initiates to tell him if she was because he was “worried about her” and “didn't want her to get more hurt” and all those other annoying older brother concerns he had.
“Carter told me to get him or Zia or Walt if you stood up.” Dammit Carter.
She would never admit this to him out loud but a part of her enjoyed that he would worry about her so much, Gran and Gramps had worried about her, of course, but most of the time it was because she was causing problems or doing something wrong, and their dad had worried about her but he was never around. It felt weirdly nice to be worried over, but she would never tell Carter any of this unless it was a life or death situation, obviously, goodness knows the boy did not need more encouragement to be a protective older brother but it did feel nice to know someone always had her back, even if it was annoying sometimes.
“I feel like I'm fine, really,” she promised, trying to stand in a way so as to put as little pressure as was possible on her bad ankle without making it too obvious to Felix. She knew the kid was worried about her and it was sweet. She wondered if this is how Carter felt when she pestered him about him getting hurt, she wondered if this is what it was like to be an older sibling.
But, as sweet, as Felix’s concerned was, if she had to sit in that chair doing nothing but sitting with her own thoughts any longer she was going to start ripping her hair out. She was not built to sit still and the fact that she got injured easily and took longer to heal seemed to be some fucked up punishment when combined with her ADHD.

Nico was fine, or so he insisted to Will who was insisting he stay in the Infirmary.
So what if he had been a little stressed out and it made him throw up, and so what if there may or may not have been a little bit of blood in that throw up. He was fine, his stomach didn't hurt that bad. But nooo Will was going to be sweet and concerned about it.
Nico knew people didn't normally throw up blood unless they were dying but he wasn't dying but he felt fine, he had been anxious but he was always anxious that came with PTSD. He didn't even know why he was so nervous, he just was, his body felt like it was ready to jump into action at any minute and he didn't know why.

He had also realized he was noticing things that most people didn't notice; someone started breathing differently and his heart started racing, his mind screaming ‘they were mad at him’ when all they had done was sigh but his heart and his mind took it as a threat, took it as proof that he was going to get kicked out and abandoned again.
He didn't mean to do it, he didn't want to have these thoughts, didn't want to be panicking like this, didn't want to take every gesture as a threat, every sigh as proof he didn't belong, every glance that lasted a little too long is proof they knew there was something wrong with him.
But they did know, they knew he was gay, they knew he was a son of Hades, they knew so much about him and they didn't care, not in the way people don't care cruelly but they didn't care because he was Nico and they liked Nico.
But his mind couldn't seem to accept that, his mind couldn't seem to accept anything good ever. So now he was sitting in the Infirmary, in a chair because he refused to sit in a bed as he wasn't actually injured, watching will work offering to help and being declined.
“Will, I'm fine” Nico insisted, spinning Will's rolly chair in semi circles. He refused to take a bed in the infirmary as he had no real injury and Will had already given him ambrosia but Will was insisting he at least sit in the infirmary just in case so to be a bit petty (and in a half-hearted attempt attempt to get himself kicked out so Will would stop stressing over him) he decided to steal Will's chair because it was the only one with wheels and he liked spinning in it.
“You threw a blood that is not fine Neeks,” Will insisted, organizing the new medications he had just received from Chiron.
“It was only a little bit and you gave me ambrosia so that probably fixed whatever problem it was.”
“Still it was blood.”
“My stomach doesn't even hurt that much anymore.”
“Which is the concerning part because it shouldn't be hurting at all anymore, I gave you Ambrosia, and because I can't tell why you threw up, what did it feel like?” Will had already asked that question about three times and Nico had always given him the same answer ‘it felt like throwing up’ because how else do you describe throwing up?
He could describe it graphically but that felt weirdly too personal, like a part of his soul he didn't want to bear; he could describe the way it made his eyes burn, the way it made him feel like his throat was closing up, the way his nose became stuffy and he could barely breathe but he was pretty sure throwing up covered all of that and he didn't want to give the graphic details, didn't want to think about it more than he had to.

Carter has always had strange rituals, a trait he had apparently inherited from his mom, they affected his life in ways he refused to acknowledge or let others see but Zia doesn't seem to mind when his anxiety about those rituals interrupt their date together. Carter had been so afraid that his boyfriend finding out about these quirks and habits and rituals would ruin their relationship but Zia accepted it almost as easily as Carter had accepted the fact that Zia was a boy.

Carter knew he needed to get up. It was time for him to get up but he couldn't bring himself to, instead laying in bed staring at the clock like he was in a staring contest with it.
9:02.
He could get up. He needed to get up. It was time for him to get up.
9:03.
The initiates could wait two more minutes for it to be a safe time.
9:04.
Were the minutes longer? Did the minutes feel longer? Why did the minutes feel longer? He needed to get up but he couldn't, one more minute. Just one more minute and then it would be fine.
Someone knocked on his door and he almost screamed. “brother dear, are you coming to breakfast?” Sadie asked through the door but Carter didn't even look at the door as he responded.
“Yeah yeah, I'm- I'm up, I'm getting dressed, I'll be there in a minute.” his eyes stayed blocked on the clock as he responded, a fear that if he looked away the safe time would pass and he would have to wait for another four minutes to get up.
9:05.
He got up and quickly covered it, if he couldn't see the time it couldn't affect him.
He knew this wasn't normal, his mom had apparently suffered the same problems, though his dad never came to him for it, never complained about his weird need for rituals. Sometimes Julius would even say ‘your mom used to do things like that’, those comparisons always made him feel weird.
He wasn't his mom, he was barely ever compared to her, he looked like his dad and because his dad got full custody of him he was referred to as Julius's son sometimes more than he was referred to as Carter Kane.
He loved his dad, it wasn't that he didn't like being considered his dad's son, it was just weird. He was never Ruby Kane's son, never Sadie Kane's brother, always Julius Kane's son.
Or that's how it used to be at least but now his dad was the ruler of the underworld and his mom was, well, she was still dead that had not changed and most of the initiates knew him as Amos’s nephew if they came from the First Nome but most of the time they saw Sadie Kane's brother or the First pharaoh in an absurd amount of generations or just Carter.
He knew his issue with numbers wasn't normal, he knew most people weren't irrationally afraid of numbers, he knew most people didn't need to flick their lights on and off a certain number of times before going to bed, he knew that most people didn't make sure they only started doing things at times that ended with zero or five.
But despite the fact it was abnormal, and most likely a disorder, it was something he had inherited from his mom a fucked up genetic way of saying ‘I'm Ruby Kane son look I even have the same weird problems with time and numbers that she did!’.
Today is going to be a good day he repeated to himself as he got dressed. Today was going to be a good day he was not going to let this weird problem he had inherited from his mother affect him today, well, affect him as much today. It always affected him.
He was going to have a date with Zia and it was going to be fine and great and they were going to have a great time and nothing bad would happen, hopefully.
He was very excited to take his boyfriend out for a date, their first proper date as boyfriends
Things haven't changed that much in their relationship since Zia came out, they were still Zia, partly because they still kept their name though they weren't sure if that would stay true but mainly because it was Zia. Who they were in the person wasn't going to change because they were using different pronouns or a different name or because they were a different gender.
Carter had never really thought about if he liked boys like that before Zia came out, he honestly had never really thought about his sexuality before meeting Zia, sure he had crushes but most of the time they had been people he had exchanged maybe three sentences with and they would fade within a month, Zia was the first person he had really liked and Gods he really really liked him.
