Day 8 - Plăcinte! Pies!
Plăcinte is the plural of plăcintă - a delicious food we love and often eat in Moldova. It’s usually translated as “pie”, which works if you think of “meat pies” in places like England or Australia or of “McDonald’s Apple Pie” instead of the dessert form of pies we know in the US.
We buy them. I make them. We go immediately for them at banquets. We do Peace Corps Week webinars about them. We talk about and dream of our favorites (Mrs. Rusu’s in Budești, Jenny’s host mom’s, ones from the 24-hour stand in Cimișlia).
We post about them often, including this long-form post for my World Wise Schools friends.
They’re usually delicious. They’re wonderfully inexpensive. They’re definitely one of my favorite foods in Moldova! (Rebecca)
