His 𝐴𝑟𝑚𝑦 𝑁𝑜𝑛𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑠𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑑 𝑂𝑓𝑓𝑖𝑐𝑒𝑟 𝐸𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑅𝑒𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡 reflected that. His Physical Fitness tests, his weapons qualifications, and the promotion points he received. He did have some college under his belt, and he was still planning on working on it, and with this special assignment, if 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑝𝑟𝑒𝑠𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑑𝑎𝑢𝑔ℎ𝑡𝑒𝑟 allowed him to, he could continue working on his degree, even if he had no idea what he was going to do. Life outside the Army never occurred to him, and frankly, he didn't have a life to go back to.
His family was slaughtered, and Trevor had nowhere to go. The Army had become a new home for him. He gained brothers and sisters in arms, but the nightmares he had were still recurring. He was thankful that behavioral health gave him medication, and he actually had a therapist whom he trusted with his mental state. She was nice, and oddly, reminded him of his mother; at least what he could remember of her.
When Trevor finally arrived at the location where he'd meet Ashley Graham, he was given orders to dress in a suit; others didn't need to know that he was still attached to the Army, so civilians was the best way to approach it. Looking at his phone, he was sent a picture of Ashley and looked ahead to see it was her. ❛ She's cute. ❜ Trevor thought to himself as he approached her. He did his best to wear a gentle smile when he got closer to her, even though he could remember his former drill sergeants discouraging smiling.
❝ You must be Ms. Graham. ❞ Trevor began to say as he looked down at her, hazel eyes meeting her lighter colored ones. Oh boy, he was in trouble. Clearing his throat, he tucked a finger under his collar to pull it slightly as if he was trying to give himself room to breathe.
❝ I've been added to your protection detail, but I wanted to take the time to get to know you myself, know your boundaries, your schedule. Essentially, I'm going to be your shadow from now on. ❞
It wasn't like Ashley had much of a choice; being the president's daughter already had a target on her back, and in a sense, Trevor did as well. But it was all part of the job, the contract. To defend the US Constitution from foreign and domestic threats. Even if a part of the contract was to be completely out of his comfort zone, not wearing his uniform, or being around his battle buddies.
