good afternoon everyone! ♡︎
id like to use my platform this afternoon to walk you through how i, and many others, typically write a fic!
it starts with an idea! we can spend hours dreaming up a plot, thinking of the right words to use, imagining it in our heads, bouncing the ideas off our friends to see if they’re worthy of the time it takes to write a fic.
then we gotta get it to paper. this takes TIME. depending on how vividly we see the idea in our heads, how much time we have to sit at our computers, and whether or not we get distracted with irl things—uni, mental health, work, family matters— this can take days, or even weeks!
then we edit. i read my fics so many times that the words bleed together, and make so many changes that sometimes i have to rewrite whole segments because i don’t like how im seeing it in my head as i read it. everyone’s different, but editing is hard.
sometimes we share it for others to look over. timezones can be a bitch, too, so with this one it can take up to a couple of days to get feedback from a beta reader, or a friend who’s opinion you so desperately desire bc if you’re anything like me, you think your fics are dumb without the validation.
then we agonise. we make headers, think of possible triggers, the layout of the post, how to tag the story, whether or not we even want to post it because is it even that good to share???
so please remember this: we put so, so much into writing what we write. we pour our souls into our work, tear ourselves to shreds over it, stay up late when we know we need sleep, because it’s what we’re passionate about. and then we share it with you guys.
please, please, please don’t steal our work.
if you want to be a writer, you have all the tools in your noggin’ to do it yourself. ive even spelt it out for you, step-by-step.
That moment when you’re casually reading fics and realize someone basically copied your idea/content only days after you posted your fic....
Plagiarism is not cool you guys!
So, I found out that someone plagiarized my story. And when someone asked about it, they said that it was their own and that I stole from them, but they didn’t want to “report me”. I guess, she didn’t think I would ever find out, and lied. But the same person who asked them asked me as well, because I just started an AO3 account and moved all my fics over there from Fanfiction.net and Tumblr. After realizing she literally copied and pasted my story onto hers and basically just replaced my characters with hers, I commented on her story to take it down, or at least take out the second part, which was where she copied my whole story. I find out today, she deleted my comment and the reply of her saying that it was her original work and that I “stole” from her. The audacity of some people. I can’t believe that someone would do this. This honestly makes me never want to post anything again, if people are going to steal from me and lie saying that it’s their original work.
EDIT: THE ACCOUNT HAS BEEN DELETED. Important somebody is stealing other peoples imagines!!
I recently discovered through a post made by @untraspideysense that someone from wattpad had stole and used one if their imagines without asking and claimed it as their own. I decided to do a follow up on HollandBabe96, the wattpad user who took the imagine, and I was surprised at what I found. She has posted multiple imagines that can be traced back to tumblr and the rightful authors/blogs. No credit given once so ever. So far the imagines have been stolen from 9 blogs as far as I can tell from what I discovered.
@sweetlysilent, your imagines taken include: Web of Lies pt.1 & pt.2, Unpredictable renamed as Brother’s Best Friend, Where’s My Love, The Assistant Job, Friendly Battle renamed as Act My Age, The Interview, May The Legos Be With You renamed as Death Star, The Boyfriend Tag, and Distance.
@tomsh0lland, your imagines taken include: The Mile High Club, and Perfect To Me renamed as Perfect.
@sarsmusings, your imagines taken include: Maybe I’m Lovesick renamed as Lovesick.

I highly recommend that those of you who were tagged check this wattpadd profile http://my.w.tt/UiNb/aTgadVt6bG for any of the fics listed that are yours. If, however, you did give them permission, just know that they did not credit anyone. I just wanted to put this out there.
someone help me before I blow up 🧍🏻♀️
If you plan on reposting or reblogging posts please give credit to me, sincerely me
