plain characters -- man in the railings
DEAR WRITERS
I absolutely hate the “she’s..plain” trope in books and how it becomes this randomly repeated thing as if it’s an integral part of the story line. Like why?? It’s just looks?? Why is this important?? Plus, I didn’t know someone was either 3 things: ugly, plain, or gorgeous.
And it’s ALWAYS WRITTEN FOR GIRLS. ALL GIRLS ARE LEGIT ALWAYS BEAUTIFUL IN REAL LIFE but I would prefer a description of how they look and decide for myself if I find them attractive or whatever
And then males in books are mostly always described as good looking?? Most guys I know don’t look as good as my foot And they’re never described as being plain or ugly. They either describe their appearance with “eyebrows” “glasses” or say they’re incredibly good looking.
I’m honestly so tired of this. If it’s not important to your story, don’t write it. It’s annoying. STOP.

Kinetic and sometimes antagonizing post-punk full of guitar stabs and shrieks and Tucker's over-the-top melodrama, released in 1980 in the UK during the height of post-punk's commercial boom.
