They're guardians of their respective planets and their job is to keep them all in harmony along with Earth (Earth's guardian is chosen every thousand or so years and is a human that's given special powers)

The Judgement of the Planets

“Gregor, it’s time for you to be judged, c’mon out.”A guard grunted out, unlocking the cell holding the beaten-up man in and letting him out. He had given up fighting them a long time ago and simply let himself be dragged from his dark cell and escorted down a dimly lit corridor to be judged by the planet gods, the highest most prestigious order of gods. Once they reached the chamber, the guards untied his hands and pushed him in. Inside the room were the gods, all sitting upon their thrones looking down at him as he knelt to the ground.

“Anpu, Anpu, look! He’s being so respectful!”The God Of Uranus, Empress Celestino, exclaimed with a giggle as he clapped his hands. His husband, the God Of Pluto, Anpu, simply nodded, his cold expression speaking for itself. “年輕的雲(young cloud), calm yourself.”The God Of Saturn, Emperor Shi, softly chuckled as he fanned himself slowly, the mature air around him was both nurturing and intimidating at the same time. “Leave him be, it’s adorable.”The Goddess Of Venus, Lady Kanani, said with a grin as she propped herself up on her throne, staring down at the prisoner before them.

“Guys please, we’re supposed to be being serious here.”The Goddess Of Earth, Lady Dimitra groaned softly, pinching the bridge of her nose as she spoke. The God Of Mars and Neptune, Chief Vaea and King Rai, both rolled their eyes yet nodded. Now with all gods focused, all eyes were on Gregor who still had his head lowered. “You may raise your head.”Emperor Anpu’s low, dead voice echoed throughout the room. “Shi, state his crimes.”Shi nodded and stood as he opened a scroll and read from it. “Well, it says here that he’s been in multiple robberies, stabbed someone in a fight, and had been caught in possession of illegal substances. However, the most recent crime that he’s being judged for is the murder of a civilian.”Shi announced as the other gods listened. Celestino looked away from Shi and at Gregor.

Gregor noticed and looked away, trying to maintain his composure, but he felt his heart begin to beat faster and faster. It was hard seeing the God Of Divinity go from happy and cheerful to judging in a matter of seconds. Celestino was considered one of the more lenient of the bunch and for him to look at him so judgingly and disappointed made Gregor feel guilty. Before he could blink, however, the air turned cold as he was physically forced to make eye contact with Anpu. Even with his eyes trying to dart around, he was not able to look away from the cold gaze of the god for a moment. Anpu kept the prisoner's attention on him, not letting him look away or break contact.

“Anpu, don’t scare the man, we gotta hear what he has to say first. Let him defend himself.”Dimitra spoke up with a sigh. Anpu stared at the man for a bit longer before letting him go and returning to his throne. Though shaken up by what he saw in Anpu’s eyes, he began explaining himself. "I had no choice... I... I wasn't given a fair choice..."He started. "I did it for my family..." Gregor looked to the ground as his eyes began to glaze over with tears, realizing the predicament he had made for himself, "They were... They were sick, they needed medicine and I couldn't afford it! I didn't want to hurt anybody, but they were going to die if I didn't get the money somehow....”He quickly looked up and stared at Celestino who began to take pity on the man.

He began to stand up and walk over to him but stopped when Insha, Goddess Of Moral Order, spoke up. “He’s lying.”She said while filing her nails and then looking at him. The God of Moral Order spoke up from his seat, his voice stern and imposing. "Any further statements he makes that are false, and he shall be punished accordingly.”She huffed. Gregor didn’t want to die. He didn’t want to die. He still had things he wanted to do. How could he get out of this? How cou-Celestino was still looking at him with pity in his eyes. That could be his way out of the death penalty.

The other gods respect Celestino’s decisions, especially Anpu since they were married. He quickly raised his head to look at Celestino, and his face softened slightly as he tried to look more pitiful. "I... I am truly sorry for what I have done but I was desperate... I didn't really have a choice..."He said with pleading eyes, "Please, don't punish me too harshly, I will do anything to make up for it... Just give me a chance..”Celestino’s eyes softened at seeing the man’s tears, clearly oblivious to the emotional lie unlike Anpu who didn’t like it one bit. None of them did. Rai, God Of Storms, huffed as he sat up.

“He’s making these dumb ass excuses to get you to pardon him, Cel. He thinks he can use that sad-ass backstory shit to get us to let him live?!”His voice thundering through the room. “Plus even the bitch has a good reason, he still killed someone. He is a murderer no matter what he says.”Vaea, huffed, his loud voice booming throughout the room, shaking the ground beneath them. Soon the others began voting for him to be executed. Gregor was now in a state of panic, seeing that the gods were not on his side. Each of the gods was firm on their decision, refusing to show any sympathy for the prisoner's situation. He felt his heart drop into his stomach as the gods voted against him, the weight of the guilt he carried suddenly feeling ten times heavier than it had before.

Realizing that he was in a situation where he could not win and that the only thing he could do now was sit quietly and wait for the decision of Celestino who hadn’t voted yet. Celestino looked around at the other gods, their judgments being firm and without hesitation when his gaze stopped at Anpu’s cold, dead eyes. Their gazes lingered on each other for a moment as if they were telepathically speaking with each other. Trusting his husband, Celestino looked back at Gregor. "My vote is for his execution."Gregor’s eyes widened as guards entered the room at the snap of Dimitra’s fingers. His face twisted with rage as the guards restrained him and began dragging him away.

He struggled against them as he yelled and cursed at Celestino and the other gods. Yelling out that they decided his fate without any thought for forgiveness or mercy. Feeling like everything was going against him, even the one god who he thought would side with him. He kept shouting and struggling against them as they pulled him towards the exit. When he was finally out of the room, screams and shouts still being heard and echoed through the halls, Celestino turned and walked over to Anpu. He sat in his lap, wrapped his arms around him, and buried his face into his husband’s chest. Anpu sighed softly and hugged him back.

“It’s alright, you made the right decision, habibi. You made the right decision. You did what was necessary...”Anpu’s comforting words for Celestino had an ominous undertone to it that only the others picked up. "We cannot always save everyone..."He added, his voice still soft and calm despite the eerie atmosphere surrounding his words.
