Groggy from the stasis chambers, the colonists filed out of the ship.
Jak was the first to speak. “So this is Oasis 13.7, home sweet home,” he boomed with a smile. It was difficult for the others to tell if he was being sincere or sarcastic.
Viv looked him up and down. Her head hurt, and she had to squint to make her eyes focus, partly from the pain and partly from the sun. Judging from the bars on the shoulder of his jumpsuit, he must be the Programmer, the leader of the expedition. Beyond him, an orange glass and metal pod rose out of the sand. “Should we go inside?” she asked. Her voice sounded small to her in this big, open space, and her throat was raspy.
“Not yet,” said Nance, a tall, blonde woman who was pushing her way to the front. “Everyone line up so I can get a picture,” she ordered.
Another man spoke up. Something about the way he carried himself made Viv think he was military. “No pictures. We need to take shelter asap,” said the man, whose name was Akira. “Everyone follow me!” He motioned with his hand.
Nance stepped in front of him, blocking his path. “Excuse me,” she said, “I have a job to do, and I’m going to do it. This is the most significant moment of our lives here, and it needs to be recorded. It will be recorded.” Ah, she must be the Chronicler, thought Viv. Nance turned to the Programmer, “Sir, if you could stand here, and everyone else form a V shape leading up to him.”
Akira opened his mouth to argue with her, but Jak stepped in. “She’s right. Do as she says.” He turned to Nance, “You have 5 minutes to get your photo, and not a second more.” Nance nodded and started grabbing people by the shoulders and forcibly placing them where she wanted them. She did not touch Akira.
Akira looked unhappy but fell into line next to Viv. A girl with rainbow-colored hair, who Viv would later find out was named Ulie, was eyeing the building while Nance finished prodding people into place at the other end of the line. “I just hope when we get up there, we find some planters on the other side of that balcony with some good, treated soil so we can grow food to eat,” Ulie said.
“I just hope whatever killed the last group of colonists doesn’t eat us while we’re standing here taking this damn picture,” said Akira.
So yeah, I’m starting a new save in addition to my 1800s-style one, which I’ll still be working on. All of the sims in the colony are premades or maxis-made sims from the gallery. Do you recognize anyone? :)
