Alex Loos and his Father used their #baileighplanishinghammer to stretch, shape and smooth panels of thin gauge copper to construct this massive copper tree. Shop air (120 psi) rapidly forces the top flat die down (4,600 times a minute) shaping the copper over multiple radius dies, forcing the copper to take the same shape (or radius) as the bottom die. Multiply this millions of times over a large area and watch the panel take shape. Day three of the gorget project: slowly but steadily, it comes together. I may have made a demi-critical error in the alignment of the rear plate's shoulder tab angles, but that can be corrected. I am also having some troubles with the spine indentation, but I think it can be adjusted with thought and effort. The planishing was a bit wonky, given the effect of two separate dished forms combatting one another, but I suspect it too can be dealt with. Onwards and upwards!
