601 New Homes Approved on the UK Greenbelt
According to a reporter, 601 houses on greenbelt land in the lowlands of Scotland has been approved due to the local housing shortfall that needs to be addressed immediately rather than waiting two years for the implementation of a new local development plan.
The appeal indicates 70 hectares of farmland in Overtown, a village in North Lanarkshire. The appellant pursued the permission to build up to 601 homes on the site, along with community and retail uses. The site lies in an area of great landscape value (AGLV), however, it encompasses only 0.54 percent of the area. (theplanner.co.uk, 2018)
Due to the growing demand for land that is capable of being built on house – builders and property developers at some point be forced to purchase even more land with an allocation or preferably with a planning consent already in place.
When investing in land it is important to take into consideration:
- How much are you prepared to invest in land?
- How much risk are you prepared to take?
- What sort of timescale are you anticipating?
- Short-term investments are usually between 1 – 4 years, medium term around 5 – 8 years
and long-term is more than the previously given time frames.
