This is Bertha. She's gonna be living in my windowsill for the next three weeks and I'm just super excited about her and needed to share. She's my second ever attempt at plantdying and first attempt at colddying. Hopefully she'll become green and maybe one day she'll become a pair of socks or gloves.

Hey so, remember Bertha? And how her project was just gonna last about a month? Weeeeell😅

So I just got back from summer vacation, and since I didn't have the time or spoons to end that little experiment before I left, she's been chilling out in the kitchen windowstill all summer. This is what she looks like now:

I went to a historical market the other week and ended up talking to one of the stall holders cuz she was selling homespun yarn and plantdyed yard (and ofc I couldn't help myself and did not leave the stall empty handed) and complained a little to her that my own plantdying project didn't go so well, and wanna know what she told me??? That of course it wasn't going well, spruce needles don't give off colour for plantdying purposes!!🙃🙃🙃🙃🙃

Well, Bertha has gained a little bit of colour over the summer, in fact more than I have tbh, do that's kind of a win right? Right?

I think I'm gonna have a go at taking her out of her jar and rinsing her out today. Rain will help wash away any horrible smells right?

So its been about a week and I actually got some notes on my post about Bertha so here's an update!

Basically... nothing's happened so far🙃 the book says that you should start seeing some change after a week, but no dice so far😔.

We do have quite a bit of bubbles though, and I'm hoping that means the fermentation process has started. If nothing happens by friday I might try to help it along a bit with some dry yeast and see if that helps.

So, on monday it'll be three weeks since I started the plantdying project that is Bertha, and... still nothing😑

The book clearly stated two to three weeks and there should be change already after the first week! Why Bertha? Why? I thought you were my friend!

I might just let her sit for an extra two weeks and see what that does🤔
