mug moulds on kodak film, 2024
Had to make a new silicone mould because the other one was too soft, a technician in 3D workshop suggested I didn’t air it long enough - which is probably true due to the fact we speeded through the workshop with Peter quite quickly due to time restrictions. Technician suggested that I use Herculite instead which is a harder stronger plaster, this worked a lot better! I think it will also last longer because again my mould was difficult to open due to silicone leaking into the cavity but it was much easier to open without breaking it.
Both silicone casts lined up side by side, tried adding white pigment into the silicone but ended up using loads which meant it thickened up loads and was harder to paint in the mould. Also has pockets of air and powder which isn’t good. However, I put in a thicker 1.5mm wire for the thumb so I can get a better range of movement - silicone so thick that needed stronger wire to bend it sufficiently (see picture 5). Placement of wire armature inside the new cast is much better and doesn’t stick out of the silicone, which is due to sheer luck because I didn’t do anything differently in that regard. Colour also isn’t really what I want, I think I need a yellow tone to make it look more like skin.
