VEGGIE BOUQUETS TO KEEP THEM FRESH 🥬 Avoiding food waste & stretching out any food's yield is always awesome, but it's become increasingly more popular during this pandemic as we aim to go to the shops as little as possible & some items are harder to find. Pictured above are our leek & flat leaf parsley bouquets & blooming celery. We always store spring onions, leeks celery in a jar with bit of water to stay fresh before use. Just make sure to change the water every couple of days. 🙂 *Tips for keeping other veg fresh without plastic*: - Kale, broccoli, cucumber lettuce & swiss chard: wrap in a damp tea towel & store in the fridge. - Courgettes: wrap in a dry tea towel & store in the fridge. - Spinach: store loose in an open container in the crisper, cool as soon as possible. - Half a lemon, onion or avocado: place it face down on a plate or wrap in beeswax/soy wrap. - Carrots, whole or cut: immerse in a container of water. Will last 2 weeks. - Tomatoes: Never refrigerate. Depending on ripeness, tomatoes are fine for up to 2 weeks on the counter. To hasten ripeness place in a paper bag with an apple. - Onions, potatoes, sweet potatoes & garlic: store in a cool, dark, place. - Cabbage & aubergines: left out on a cool counter is fine up to a week. For longer keep in the crisper drawer of the fridge. - Herbs: a closed container in the fridge to kept up to a week. NB. Basil doesn't last as long. Use asap. Our goal is to get a window box once lockdown is over so we’ll have fresh herbs & the like at hand.
