Renaissance & Reality

The Renaissance period enlightened us with art, politics, philosophy, science, architecture, and literature. Art became very important to the public, but it is said that those who lived during this period didn’t see it in the same way that the artists and patrons did. It may have just been a capitalist trend, one that only the wealthiest could enjoy. I love the arts, philosophy, literature, etc but to live up to the highest of standards isn’t realistic… or any fun. I am fascinated by people who decide to live differently.

The punk era promoted new art, fashion, music, ideologies, and expression. It wasn’t for the wealthy and it rebelled from the need to seem proper. The fashion was purposely offensive and overtly sexual. It was shocking, but if you could get over that then you can see that it really stood for something. It showed expression, it had no need to look beautiful. And that is what made me interested in drawing these two designs… because I am interested in reality.

I am not impressed by someone just because they can spew what they have been taught, I am impressed by a person who is not afraid to express their truth and emotions. Art is not just to show what you see and what you know, I think you must also show what you feel.
