Casablanca by Michael Curtiz
For day 3 we have Casablanca.
Casablanca—yes, that black-and-white classic of 1942 you’ve heard referenced in movies, series, books, and everywhere—and somehow every mention still feels too small. If there’s a film that comes close to absolute perfection, this is the one.
Every frame, every shadow, every line of dialogue fit together like a puzzle only Hollywood’s golden age could have created.
Bergman is simply stunning, glowing in every shot.
Bogart is Bogart—iconic without even trying.
And then there are the quotes, the ones that have lived far beyond the film itself: "We’ll always have Paris." "Here’s looking at you, kid." "Play it, Sam."
"I'm shocked! Shocked to find that gambling is going on in here."
"Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine."
"Round up the usual suspects."
"Go ahead and shoot. You’ll be doing me a favor."
"You know, Louis… I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship."
Just a few pieces of a diamond that keeps shining no matter how many decades pass.
Can you tell that I adore this film???? Yes, I could watch it a million times and never get tired of it.
The airport goodbye is one of the most unforgettable scenes in film history—and the other airport scene is just as legendary.
Rick sulking at the bar, the smoke curling around him, the piano playing in the background…
The Paris in Casablanca… the whole movie is iconic from start to finish.
And yes, it’s a love story. A beautiful one. A heartbreaking one. But also something bigger: a story about timing, sacrifice, and the way life sometimes asks more of us than we want to give.
Does it matter how it ends? No. Because in the end, we will always have Casablanca.
